March 1st is here! 🍀
This is your monthly reminder to check in with your body.
A self breast exam only takes a few minutes, but it’s one of the simplest ways to stay familiar with what’s normal for you. And here’s something many people don’t realize:
👉 Use different pressures during your exam.
Why? Because breast tissue isn’t all at the same depth.
When you do your self exam, try this three-level pressure method:
✨ Light pressure
Use the pads of your fingers to gently feel just under the skin. This helps you notice changes right beneath the surface.
✨ Medium pressure
Press a little deeper to feel the middle layer of tissue.
✨ Firm pressure
Use enough pressure to feel the tissue closest to the chest wall and ribs. This shouldn’t hurt, but you want to make sure you’re reaching the deeper tissue.
You can move your fingers in small circular motions and follow a pattern that helps you cover the entire breast. Some people prefer going up and down in vertical lines. Others like circular patterns from the outside in. The most important thing is consistency.
Also remember to check:
✅ Under the arm area
✅ Up toward the collarbone
✅ Around the ni**le
This isn’t about fear. It’s about familiarity. The more you know your own body, the more quickly you’ll notice if something feels different.
If you ever feel a new lump, thickening, skin dimpling, ni**le changes, or anything that simply doesn’t feel right for you, reach out to your healthcare provider for evaluation.
Set a reminder. Put it on your calendar. Tie it to the first of every month. 📆
Your body deserves your attention!
