We had the privilege of working alongside Annapolis Professional Firefighters Local 1926, Arnold Volunteer Fire Department, Eastport United Methodist Church, and so many family and friends to honor Retired Captain Robert “Bobby” Daywalt.
It was a true honor to be trusted in helping celebrate a man whose impact was felt by so many. Bobby will always be remembered — by those who worked with him, those who learned from him, and those who loved him. ❤️

Last week, we had the incredible honor of helping the Lovell family honor Captain James “Jim” A. Lovell, Jr. USN Ret. — astronaut, husband, father, colleague, and American hero best known for the Apollo 13 mission.

On a clear fall day, family, friends, fellow astronauts, and members of the U.S. Navy gathered to celebrate a life that inspired generations to look to the stars. The service was filled with heartfelt tributes, Navy traditions, and quiet moments of reflection.

Among those who spoke were Tom Hanks, who portrayed Captain Lovell in Apollo 13, and Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke, who read a eulogy written by Fred Haise, Captain Lovell’s crewmate.

It was a day of deep emotion, pride, and gratitude — and an absolute privilege to witness the love and respect surrounding such a remarkable man.

Today, Lasting Tributes had the opportunity to honor the life and service of retired Captain Robert J. “Bobby” Daywalt who passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at his home in Ridgely, Maryland.

Born and raised in Annapolis, Bobby began his service to the citizens as a volunteer at the The Eastport Volunteer Fire Company and then the West Annapolis Fire & Improvement Company - WAVFD 40. He was hired by the Annapolis Fire Department as a career firefighter on October 25, 1979. He rose through the ranks, being promoted to Captain on June 1, 2008. During his career in the Annapolis Fire Department, Bobby served in many capacities, including Operations, Training, and the Fire and Explosive Services Unit. Bobby was especially proud of his time in the Training Division, where he served as a Recruit Training Officer for multiple Recruit Academies in Anne Arundel County Fire Department and Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. Bobby retired from the Department on June 1, 2010, after a long and distinguished career. 🚒🇺🇸
