Joint injections have been used successfully for decades for the treatment of chronic joint pain. Most often, joint injections are done for therapeutic purposes into the knee, hip, shoulder, ankle and other joints. ⁠

Here are 5️⃣ things that you should know about the procedure itself:⁠

1️⃣ It is essential that patients give informed consent to ensure that they are informed of the potential risks. ⁠
⁠
2️⃣ What’s in your injector will be dependent upon your treatment plan. ⁠

3️⃣ To patients on blood thinners, you do not need to stop taking your medication but it is advised that you take into account the timing of your dose. ⁠

4️⃣ Joint injections can be used as a diagnostic tool when there is an overlap of conditions, a diagnostic injection can exclude one or the other condition. ⁠
