“First–Then” is one of the most powerful ABA tools you can use — especially during the holidays when the schedule gets unpredictable. 🎄💛

Why it works:
Children feel calmer when they know what’s next.
“First–Then” gives them a simple, visual roadmap.

Examples:
✔ “FIRST put on shoes, THEN go see Christmas lights.”
✔ “FIRST eat two bites, THEN you can open a small gift.”
✔ “FIRST clean up toys, THEN watch a Christmas movie.”
✔ “FIRST take a break, THEN go back to the activity.”

This strategy reduces frustration, prevents meltdowns, and builds independence — all while keeping the holidays fun.
Simple tools. Big wins. 💙

Holiday events can get loud, crowded, and overstimulating — even for adults. For children with sensory sensitivities, it can feel like too much all at once. 🎄💛

Teaching a simple break routine can make those moments easier:
✔ “When I feel overwhelmed, I can go to my quiet spot.”
✔ “I can ask for a break.”
✔ “I can put on headphones.”
✔ “I can take 3 deep breaths.”
✔ “I can squeeze my fidget.”

ABA helps families teach these coping tools before the hard moment happens so children feel confident and equipped.
Breaks aren’t avoiding the moment — they’re how kids build self-regulation. 💙

The holidays turn everything upside down — new places, new people, late nights, loud events, and lots of excitement. 🎄
For many kids, especially those who rely on structure, that sudden shift can feel overwhelming.

Keeping just a few routines familiar can make a big difference:
✔ The same morning routine
✔ The same bedtime routine
✔ A consistent meal/snack schedule
✔ One calm activity built into the day
✔ Visuals to show “what’s next”

Predictability doesn’t ruin the fun — it protects the fun.
A steady rhythm helps your child feel safe, confident, and ready to enjoy the season. 💛💙

The holidays are full of teachable moments — and ABA helps turn those moments into real, lasting skills. 🎄💛

Here are easy ways to build independence this season:
✔ Opening gifts: practice tearing paper beforehand
✔ Waiting turns: use a visual turn card or timer
✔ Helping in the kitchen: assign one simple step
✔ Greeting family: practice a wave, fist bump, or short script
✔ Cleaning up: make it a race or use a “first clean, then fun” board

You don’t need long lessons — everyday life is the lesson.
Small steps make big skills grow. 💙

The holidays come with lots of transitions — leaving the house, switching activities, visiting new places, or stopping a preferred activity. These moments can feel extra stressful for kids who rely on routine. 💛🎄

Simple tools make a big difference:
✔ Use a 2 minute or 5 minute warning
✔ Show a quick visual (“first ___, then ___”)
✔ Practice the transition at home before the real thing
✔ Keep praise heavy and expectations clear
✔ Stay calm and predictable even when the schedule isn’t

Transitions don’t have to be perfect.
They just need to be supported. 💙

All behavior means something — especially for children who are still learning how to communicate. 💛

Before a child has the words to say “I’m tired,” “I’m overwhelmed,” or “I need help,” their behavior becomes their voice.
Crying, running away, grabbing, shutting down — these aren’t “misbehaviors”… they’re messages.

ABA helps us read those messages with compassion.
We ask:
✔ What happened right before?
✔ What is the child trying to gain or avoid?
✔ How can we teach a clearer, easier skill to replace this behavior?

When we understand the why, we can change the what.
Behavior isn’t random — it’s communication. 💙
