Companah Pet Cremation

Companah Pet Cremation Companah is a North Carolina company, here to serve you and your family with pet cremation services.

For all business inquiries please email or call us directly. Companah offers private pet cremation or group cremation services. We offer water cremation – which is a gentle, environmentally-responsible process (it’s also referred to as alkaline hydrolysis). Using water flow, low temperature and minerals, it is more like the natural decomposition that occurs after burial than any other body disposi

tion method – water cremation just accelerates the natural process of soft tissue hydrolysis. After the water cremation process, only the mineral ash of the bones remain – pathogen and disease free. Unlike flame-based cremation, which releases harmful greenhouse gases, the remains contain no black, carbonized ash.

The pillows stay just as you left them.
Their toys remain untouched.
Their favorite sunny spot stays empty.
The quiet feels different now.
And still, I carry them with me—always.
Sometimes missing them is just noticing the space they used to be.
Holding space for everyone missing someone today. 🤍

Today, we’re honoring the pets who have shaped our lives—both past and present.

These are the companions loved by members of our own team, each leaving a lasting mark on the hearts of those who knew them. 🤍

Slide 2) R’eah: R’eah was the dog that helped us raise our three kids. Just a sweet boy, with his attention always drawn to making sure all his people were obeying whatever he thought the rules of the house were. True companion, and lover of all things peanut butter.

Slide 3) TB: My tiny TB. We lost her several months ago. It might even be a year now, I don’t like to keep track. I knew she was surrounded by love and respect when I brought her little body to work. Nobody rushed me, nobody judged me. And Dr Pease with FMV did her euthanasia at our house and she made one of the hardest days just that much easier 💜 her little soul was finally free after that day.

Slide 4) Lucky: The dog that pulled me out of my “weird” middle school aged vibes and really helped me figure out who I was. His name was Lucky! We saved him from the Lee County Animal Shelter. They didn’t even charge us an adoption fee because I had been the only person he had reacted to when anyone would come into the kennels. He was my ride or die through middle and high school. Was an emotional support during my parents divorce. He passed in 2012 right before I started the Fire Academy. He may have been a wild handful and an escape artist…. but he was my boy!!❤️

Slide 5) Jack , Slide 6) Daphne: Jack came into our lives after we had lost our previous companion Cleo of 16 years. He was a stray that followed our neighbor and her dog Neko home. We found his “owners” but they were getting ready to send him to the pound. The plan was to find him his forever home as we thought we weren’t ready for a new pet. After a week we discovered he had found his family and has been with us almost 12 years now. Daphne came to us at 2 1/2 years and has taken over as leader of the pack since we bought her home 2 years ago. She is the s***k that has us laughing at least one day with her sassy attitude and quick side eye. We rescued them but we feel like they saved us.

Slide 7) Rowan: Rowan was the horse I didn’t know I needed. He helped me gain so much confidence, not only in the horse world. He was there for me through a couple high school years and as I entered into my adult years. He was always a constant that I knew I could lean on and trust no matter what. I unexpectedly lost him in March 2025.

Slide 8)Maddie: Maddie was my soul cat. Back in 2011 my parents and I went to the shelter to adopt a cat. Both my parents tried interacting with her and she couldn’t care less. I got to her kennel and she was the most playful loving cat! I knew in that moment she was meant to come home with us. She was with me from middle school through my adult years. She carried lots of secrets and late night conversations. She was always so sassy with lots to say. I unfortunately lost her in January of this year.

Slide 9) Alice, Slide 10) Bruce: Bruce and Alice were my family dogs growing up. They went through a lot with my family and were my confidants growing up. We lost Alice in 2024 (I believe) and Bruce just a year later in 2025. Alice was the most sassy princess and such a beautiful lady. We used to call her a cotton ball because she was so fluffy. I still have a lock of her fur in my drawer. Bruce was the most handsome and lovingest boy. They are forever loved and forever missed.

This Easter, we’re thinking of the smaller companions who leave just as big of a mark on our hearts. 🐰🤍

When people think of pet memorials, they often think of dogs and cats—but the bond we share with rabbits is just as deep.

We’ve had the honor of creating memorials for beloved bunnies, each one a reflection of a life that was deeply loved.

No matter their size, their presence is never small.

Their memory stays with us, always. 🤍

Thinking of somebunny special this Easter. 🌿

After nearly 5 years with us, we’re saying goodbye to Holly 🤍

Holly first found us when we cared for her own pets in 2021. She was called to join our team and we’ve been lucky to have her ever since.

As part of our mobile team, Holly stepped into people’s homes during some of their most vulnerable moments—always meeting them with compassion, care, and without judgment.

She has a way of bringing comfort to families when they need it most; the kind that leaves a lasting impact.

We’re so grateful for everything she’s given to this work and to the families she’s supported. Wishing her nothing but the best in this next chapter. We know she’ll continue to bring the same compassion and care wherever she goes.🤍

Spring often brings a sense of renewal, growth, and new beginnings—but for many, it can also bring a quiet reminder of those we’re missing.

Honoring your pet can be a meaningful way to carry their memory with you while creating space for both reflection and healing. Whether it’s something small and personal or something shared, what matters most is what feels right to you.

If you’re navigating loss this season, you’re not alone. 🤍🌿

Just 38 years ago, the Women’s Business Ownership Act was passed in 1988, allowing women to apply for business loans without a male co-signer and opening the door to entrepreneurship for women.

Shannon is a shining example of the care, dedication, and leadership that women-owned businesses bring to their communities. She stands as a reminder of the hard work and perseverance of the women who came before her.

With Shannon’s background in science and her husband’s background in pastoral care, starting a business in pet aftercare was a natural fit.

Companah is proudly a woman- and family-owned local small business, and we are honored to serve the Piedmont and Sandhills regions of North Carolina.

If your pet passes away at your home, we can come to you to pick up your companion. No matter if it was an expected or unexpected event, we understand how difficult the occasion is – we’re here to make things a bit easier. Just give us a call or send us a message, and we’ll be able to meet you...

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone. Losing a companion changes the rhythm of our days, our homes, and our hearts.

These are a few gentle ways to care for yourself while grieving. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, and know that you’re not alone in this. 🤍

If you feel comfortable, we invite you to share: what brought you comfort during loss?

About Companah

Companah is a small business founded in Central North Carolina, owned and operated by Hal and Shannon Atkins. Caring for others, living and loving the natural beauty of our state, and having careers in science and technology are the reasons they have built this practice. Hal spent his childhood in the mountains of North Carolina enjoying the natural splendor of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Shannon spent her younger years down east on the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers. Knowing the importance of our natural environment, they are excited to bring a technology that will significantly reduce the environmental impact of traditional animal cremation methods while returning a better overall product to your family.

Hal and Shannon have always enjoyed having dogs and cats as a part of their family – experiencing the joy of their companionship and knowing full well the pain of their loss. They recognize that the first experiences of grief and loss for young children often occur around the death of a family pet. Shannon and Hal believe very strongly that they can provide resources of healing that may serve them as they grow and mature – all the while showing that science can afford us advancements that reduce our impact while returning and even better product.
