This time of year is all about gratitude, intentional self-care, and embracing the cozy. Where I’m from, in the great north woods, we practice Hygge (hoo-ga) which is a Scandinavian term that means being comfortable, relaxed, enjoying life’s simple pleasures, and taking care of your well-being.
This usually means being with friends, warm blankets, candlelight, good food and drinks, not bringing anything frustrating or annoying into your space, turning off your phone and lessening distractions, and taking a break.
With the holiday season upon us, these things can feel out of touch or hard to accomplish. My challenge for you is to bring Hygge into your skin routine. Think of your products as peace and comfort. Your moisturizer or nourishing oils should feel like a warm hug. Embrace the velvety textures and the soothing herbs and plants that go into each product.
Sometimes during these darker months, I try not to miss the sunlight but to embrace the dark. I’ll take a warm bath or do my skincare by candle light. I’ll make sure my socks or pajamas are soft and fuzzy. You could even make your favorite tea and enjoy it while your face mask sits. These little moments make the darker and colder months more enjoyable and it reminds you to slow down and take care of yourself.
Embrace Hygge this winter season. Book your facial using the link in my bio. Please DM for all product recommendations and pick up times.
