You just went to your doctor. They gave you retinol for your wrinkles, pores, breakouts, hyperpigmentation, etc. and you are excited but nervous… this is totally normal. Here’s how to get the most out of it:
1. This does not replace a normal routine. Please, for the love of all things holy, wash your face morning and night and still use your moisturizer.
2. If you don’t have a cleanser or moisturizer, you’re not ready for retinol.
3. Don’t start out using it every single night. This is a gradual product and most people only need it a few times a week (at night) even years after using it.
4. You need an SPF to wear during the day. You’re putting on an exfoliant at night, this can leave your skin vulnerable to sun damage the next day. If you aren’t using both, there’s no point in using the retinol at all.
5. If you have sensitive skin, you should be sandwiching your retinol. Wash your face, apply a hydrating serum, apply your retinol, and then finish with your moisturizer. You will still get all the benefits without the sensitivity.
