This week I am still seeing lots of flu. It has not been uncommon for them to have 5-8 days of feeling miserable with 102-104 fevers. Common symptoms: cough, runny nose, watery eyes, viral rash, vomiting, diarrhea, and mild leg pain. While fevers do have a job in illness, treating kids who feel very ill (often over 101.5-102), does help them drink and eat better. Fever reducers should decrease temp by at least 0.5-1 degree. They may not bring it down to 98.9 and that is okay. It is very important to keep kiddos hydrated during illness and with fevers. Bone broths & water along with electrolytes. Berry-lyte is a great more natural and dye free option. Electrolytes and sugar are super important when they are sick and not eating. Frequent sips are easier than getting them to chug liquids. They do not eat much, but must drink plenty. While I love epsom salt baths when sick, watch the water temp. You want it lower than their body temp so that it is helping cool them down. However, cool to your touch will be freezing to them and they will not enjoy it. Definitely seek emergency care if they have a fever going up even with medication, are lethargic or confused, refuse to walk because their legs hurt so badly, are not drinking, have dark urine or not peeing enough, have trouble breathing, or have other symptoms you feel need immediate assessment.

Happy New Year! I stepped away from social media over the holidays and it was such a gift of rest — highly recommended for all my busy ladies. Even offline, I spent my days with the sweetest babies and their families. I’m so grateful for the little ones I cared for in 2025 and excited for all the new faces I’ll meet in 2026. Sending love and blessings, Erica.

A few things to consider adding to your travel bag this holiday season! Home visits are available early next week, including Thanksgiving Day. Closed the 28th-1st. Visits restart the afternoon of Tuesday December 2nd. Wishing you all safe travels and a wonderful week.

I’ve been busy seeing both newborn home visits and in-office pediatric patients for the last few months and not on social media much. However, I wanted to share a little hand washing video again as we head into the holiday season. Reach out if you have any questions or need an appointment 💕 Be Blessed

Most babies will begin to crawl between 7 and 10 months of age. So, be ready by "baby proofing" your home before 6 months. Just as some little ones are overachievers and may begin earlier, some may be on the older end of the expected time, and that is okay! Each baby has their own journey. Remember that for babies born early, we use their corrected gestational age for milestones. Always reach out if you are worried so that we can discuss your specific concerns. Plan ahead and secure large furniture properly to the the wall long before babies can crawl/pull up!

The first bath can, and in most cases should, be delayed for a minimum of 12-24 hrs. The vernix that protects your baby's skin in-utero continues to offer benefits after birth. (There are rare cases when immediate baths are needed and many other special considerations for neonates in the NICU) Were you able to delay your newborns first bath?
