Honoring Black Women in Medicine đ¤
Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler became the first Black woman physician in the United States in 1864.
At a time when both women and Black Americans faced enormous barriers in healthcare, she broke through dedicating her career to caring for women, children, and formerly enslaved individuals who had little access to medical care.
Her work helped lay the foundation for more equitable and compassionate healthcare.
As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor Dr. Crumplerâs courage, resilience, and lasting impact on medicine especially in womenâs health.
