"Can we hold a graveside service only?" Yes, you can, and for some families it feels exactly right.

A graveside service offers the simplicity of gathering in one place, and it can still include music, readings, or military honors that make it deeply personal. We work with the cemetery, and help you bring together all the details so the service reflects what matters most to your family.

Families ask us all the time whether their child should attend the funeral, and our answer is almost always yes, though parents know their child best. Children benefit from being part of these important moments, even when they're hard to understand.

Funerals give kids a chance to say goodbye in their own way, ask the questions that are spinning in their heads, and see that adults cry and feel sad too. They get to be surrounded by people who loved the same person they did, and that connection often helps them make sense of what death means. Most importantly, they learn that grieving together is how families heal.

One of our Admin staff has these at her desk as a daily pick-me-up, so in honor of National Pickle Day today, we thought we'd share today's affirmation! Don't forget to "relish" that moment! 🥒💚🥒

Veterans Day reminds us that behind every uniform was someone's dad, mom, brother, or best friend who chose to serve. The veterans we've been privileged to know brought incredible stories home with them about the buddies who kept them laughing and the moments that changed everything. We're grateful for their service and for all the ways they touched the lives around them.

Have you considered how you'll want to be remembered on anniversaries and birthdays?

Maybe you'd love for your family to make your famous chocolate cake every year on your birthday, even if it never turns out quite like yours did. Or perhaps you'd want them to visit that little diner where you always ordered the same breakfast, sharing stories about all the funny things you used to say.

These special days will come every year, and your family will want to honor you in ways that feel meaningful. When you share what brings you joy on these occasions, you help them create celebrations that keep your spirit alive.

What traditions do you hope they'll continue? And what new ones would you want them to start?

Part chemistry. Part compassion.

One of our very own funeral directors, Mac Aulay Freed, spoke Wednesday night at the Fox Valley Science Society’s event at The Tardigrade's Bookshelf. She had a full house! Mac Aulay did a great job presenting on the behind-the-scenes of the funeral industry. It was a fun, educational time!
