Thoughtful Thursday: 🌧RAIN technique🌧

Sometimes life can be overwhelming for children and adults. It can help to have a simple cue or reminder to ground ourselves to our current situation .

R = Recognize what is happening
🌈 label and acknowledge the
thoughts, feelings and behaviors
impacting you
A = Allow life to be just as it is
🌈 let your thoughts, feelings and
sensations be recognized, pause
and relax
I = Investigate with kindness
🌈 ask what is happening inside me?
what do I believe?
N = Non-identification, you are not the emotion
🌈your sense of who you are is not
fused with emotions, sensations
or stories

Thoughtful Thursday: Loving-Kindness Mindfulness. We are often bombarded by content that is negative or overwhelming. We may see occasional stories of kindness and compassion, however, this is often drowned out by hardship and stressors. In Loving - Kindness Mindfulness we can work to cultivate an attitude of open, unconditional friendliness. This practice entails sending kind, compassionate or loving intentions/phrases to several different categories of individuals:

The self
A cherished person or “mentor”
A friend
A neutral person or stranger
An “enemy” or difficult person
All living beings

For example, you may say today "May I be safe", " May the man at the grocery store feel restored", "May all living beings be protected and understood". This type of mindfulness has benefits such as:

Increased positive emotions
Improved health
Reduced self-criticism
Increased empathy
Improved social connection and relationships
Decreased Bias

The READY Clinic is an assessment based diagnostic clinic for
youth (ages 6-12) with potential Attention Deficit Disorder Diagnosis. The READY Clinic is meant to provide timely and clinically appropriate diagnosis for uncomplicated ADHD. The READY Clinic is staffed by our therapy team and utilizes structured assessment tools to aid in clarification of diagnosis

Evaluation is a two-appointment sequence along with collection of rating scales completed by parent/guardian and teacher/educator or an alternate community rater to provide a review of the youth’s functioning.

Traci Brown, LPC

Traci has been with the Vira Wellness family since the beginning. Traci provides services to adolescents and adults. Traci has a certification in Sports Psychology and has completed advanced training in Biofeedback. Biofeedback is a non-invasive treatment that uses real-time measurement of things such as heart rate and skin temperature to teach conscious control for stress reduction. Traci enjoys working with adolescents with depression, anxiety and a range of behavioral concerns, as well as student athletes. Traci's therapeutic approach is eclectic and pulls from Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, Interpersonal and Solution Focused Therapies. Traci views therapy as a collaborative process and is patient and engaged in building relationships.

Traci enjoys spending time bowling, working out, and spending time with her husband and daughter and their Great Danes (who happen to think they are lap dogs).

Katie DeBruin, LPC

Katie joined the Vira Wellness family in May of 2024. Katie provides services to children, adolescents, adults, and families. Katie has extensive experience in working with anxiety and depressive disorders. Katie has completed specialized training in working with individuals experiencing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Katie also facilitates the Parent Education ADHD Group with Vira Wellness. Katie's therapeutic style focuses on education, with the foundation of knowledge and tools to create success.

Katie enjoys spending time reading, painting, and chasing her 2 energetic boys around with her husband. She also enjoys live music, coffee, and Golden Retrievers.
