We are delighted to announce our September Employee of the Month as Meghan Staton, as we find her to have all the qualities that make an excellent nurse; she is intelligent, compassionate, and relentless in obtaining the best possible outcomes for her patients. She treats each one of her patients as if they were a family member, even those who are difficult. She has the unique ability to unravel and troubleshoot while finding a solution. She is an advocate for her patients, from the moment she arrives on the floor until she leaves in the evening. She listens to her colleagues when they are having a difficult day, and they walk away knowing that she heard them and cares. She is detail-oriented and orchestrates her patients' care by communicating with the necessary disciplines to ensure that her patients achieve the very best outcomes. She does all of this with a smile and an infectious upbeat attitude. She is always looking to improve her skills and broaden her scope of practice. Everyone with whom she works praises her ability to create a collaborative, open, and welcoming environment. She treats everyone as equals and values the contribution of all staff equally. She leads by example, and she raises the level of care in either hall just by being herself. Mention her name to anyone, and they will smile and say, “I love working with Meghan Staton” every time. She stepped up and took on the duties of the Unit Manager until we could hire one. This was absolutely huge for us, and she never complained once. We are proud to have her represent our facility and appreciate her continued contributions to patient care. She sincerely deserves to be recognized for all she is and does for Appomattox Health and Rehab residents, her peers, and the nursing profession.
