Today is World Semicolon Day.

A semicolon represents a pause, not an end. In mental health, it’s a symbol of choosing to continue your story, even when it feels heavy.

For those struggling with eating disorders, this message matters deeply. Su***de rates among people with eating disorders are significantly higher than the general population:

About 1 in 3 people with anorexia and 1 in 4 people with bulimia or binge eating disorder have attempted su***de.

People with anorexia are 18x more likely to die by su***de.

People with bulimia are 7x more likely to die by su***de.

Behind every number is a person who deserves support, understanding, and hope.

Today, and every day, we stand with those who are struggling. Your story isn’t over.

This one hits… 🤍

We compare our real life to someone else’s highlight reel all the time.

But what you’re seeing isn’t the full picture.
It’s a window. Carefully chosen moments. The good angles. The sunny parts.

Meanwhile, you’re living your whole story — the stress, the doubts, the hard days, the growth no one sees.

Of course it feels unfair.
You’re comparing your storm to someone else’s sunshine.

But here’s the truth:
Everyone has their own storms. You just don’t see them through the glass.

So instead of asking, “Why is their life better?”
Try asking, “What do I need right now?”

Come back to yourself.
Your pace. Your path. Your life.

You’re not behind. You’re just seeing clearly ✨

Cognitive distortions are those sneaky thought patterns that convince us something is true, even when it’s not.

Maybe some of these sound familiar:
🤦🏻‍♀️ “I always mess things up.” (overgeneralizing)
🌋 “If this goes wrong, everything will fall apart.” (catastrophizing)
🙇🏻‍♀️ “They didn’t text back, so they must be upset with me.” (mind reading)

These thoughts can feel automatic, loud, and very real, but they’re NOT facts. 💭🙅🏻‍♀️✅

The goal isn’t to eliminate these thoughts. It’s to notice them, question them, and gently create space for a more balanced perspective.

Your thoughts are powerful, but they’re not always accurate.

Q-Club offers a safe space at the Valley Community Library for ages 12-17 to chat, create art, hang out, and build community. This is a place where we encourage teens to come as they are and embrace who they want to be by building self confidence in finding community and seeing themselves reflected in media. Allies, friends, and support buddies are all welcome! Registration is required. Snacks will be provided by our partners at QueerNEPA.
