❄️➡️🌤️ Did you know, winter temperature swings can be harder on horses than steady cold?!

Warm days in the 40s–60s followed by sharp drops into the 20s, teens, or single digits (especially if there is moisture) can stress digestion, hydration, and temperature regulation.

How to help your horse stay comfortable and healthy:

🐎 Support hydration

Horses often drink less in cold weather, increasing colic risk.

• Offer lukewarm water when possible
• Add soaked feeds or hay-based rations
• Provide free-choice salt

🐎 If you blanket, adjust with the swings

A warm day + a heavy blanket = overheating.
Cold, wet nights = chills.

• Layer when needed
• Remove or swap blankets as temps rise
• Check under blankets daily

🐎 Keep forage consistent

Long-stem forage helps regulate body temperature and gut health.

• Free-choice hay supports digestion and warmth
• Avoid sudden feed changes during cold snaps

🐎 Nutrition matters in the winter

Cold stress increases calorie needs and digestive demand.

• Balanced fat sources can help maintain condition
• Gut-supportive feeds and supplements help keep digestion steady through stress

Rapid weather changes are tough, but with consistent management and smart nutrition, horses can handle winter swings comfortably and safely.

As Senior Horses age, dental care + the right nutrition become non-negotiable.

Here’s what every horse owner should know:

• Dental exams every 6–12 months help catch fractures, infections, and other issues early.

• Chewing doesn’t always mean swallowing.

• Quidding (chewing hay into a wad + spitting it out) is a major sign your senior isn’t getting the nutrition they need.

• When forage isn’t being digested well, easy-to-chew, easy-to-digest feeds become essential.

That’s where Intensify Senior Therapy™ comes in.

Formulated to support aging horses with high digestibility, gut support, and balanced nutrition, it helps ensure your senior is actually absorbing what they eat, no matter what their teeth are doing.

Modern feeding practices make our lives easier, but some can quietly work against our horses’ dental health.

Today’s “normal” feeding can create long-term consequences for the mouth, including:

• Less natural grazing + more time in stalls
• Reduced chewing time
• Less wear on teeth, more sharp points
• High sugar hays

Great nutrition isn’t just about nutrients…it’s also about how a horse uses their mouth to access those nutrients.

Helpful changes to consider:
✔ Offering more long-stem forage when possible
✔ Feeding in ways that encourage natural chewing patterns
✔ Choosing feeds that complement (not replace) healthy dental use
✔ Regular dental checks to catch imbalances early

A healthier mouth means better digestion, better comfort, and better long-term wellness.

When the right nutrition plan is implement for the right horse…the results speak for themselves.👏

“I can't recommend this product enough. In 2016 I faced losing my heart horse after an ulcer flare landed him in the hospital. Our local Bluebonnet rep helped me at every step. After medical treatment, this product helped literally transform him into a horse I had never seen. He put on weight, built a topline, and excelled at the top of his sport. I’ve used this product on numerous horses since—and always see stellar results.” — Catherine C.

That product? Hay Fix™.

Designed to help horses get more out of every bite, Hay Fix™ supports:

• Better fiber + nutrient digestion
• Improved feed efficiency (31.7% higher in a 4-week trial)
• Weight, condition, and overall performance, especially for hard keepers or horses on inconsistent forage

Because sometimes the difference between “maintaining” and thriving is what’s happening in the gut.
