K an D Pharmacy patients and friends: the world of pharmacy has been turned upside. CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) changed the rules regarding DIR(direct, indirect remuneration) fees, fees that PBM’s (pharmacy benefit managers)can charge pharmacies beginning Jan 1, 2024. The DIR fees to pharmacies and patients increased by 107,000% from 2010-2020, and the last three years hasn’t been any better. How I miss him so. Lost my Dozer to Leukemia this past Friday, the 13th. House is so quiet, no barking at the neighbor, no giving me heck because the sliding patio door is closed, not waiting for my last bite of dinner, and missing his snoring at night. He was a good boy, he just wanted to be loved.

Today, Daren and I had the privilege of hosting 15 veterans and their families as they were honored with a quilt from the Quilts of Valor Organization of the greater Wichita area.

This evening, words from Steve Manley sum up the appreciation the veterans felt for being recognized, honored and awarded their quilts. Tomorrow, I’ll add each additional veteran and pictures of them as they receive their quilts.

“Today I was totally blindsided by an act of kindness from my dear friend, Kechia Vining Reese. Having conspired for quite some time with my sweet Renata, she submitted my name to a group called, 'Quilts Of Valor', an awesome group of quilters located all over our nation. They volunteer to make beautiful quilts to honor those who serve/served in our armed forces. They announced that they had surpassed 300,000 quilts recently.
I had no idea what was going on. Renata just said I had a n appointment at 1 pm at K & D Pharmacy. As we walked in I was totally confused, not knowing what was going on. After they began their program they called me up front to present me with this beautiful quilt in recognition of my service in the Army nearly 50 years ago.
Needless to say, I was in tears as one after another hugged me and thanked me for my service. Back in the 70's nobody ever said thanks for serving so this was very emotional for me. There were several veterans presented with their own unique quilt.
After the ceremony was over I went out to the car and cried like a baby. God bless all these servant minded people who did this, and thank you, Kechia Vining Reese, for nominating me for this honor.”
