Nine years of showing up, believing, and building speech together.

This kind of progress doesn’t come from one strategy alone. It comes from a deep connection with the child, therapy that grows with them, and carefully applying principles of motor learning so practice is meaningful and consistent. By blending the tenets of DTTC and PROMPT, therapy becomes individualized, intentional, and responsive to what the child needs in the moment.

When trust, experience, and evidence-based practice come together, amazing things can happen. And sometimes, the most powerful part of therapy is simply the relationship built along the way. đź’™

Monday, we meet again!đź’Ą

PLUS the daylight savings time change over the weekend?? đź’Ą đź’Ą đź’Ą

Our kids try their very best to keep it together during the school day. Strict schedules, social interactions, tasks that require long attention spans, loud/constant sounds, bright lights, not much of “their choice” throughout the day…

If you’re constantly met with angry, frustrated, or harmful behavior from your child after school, they’re likely dysregulated and need help finding their calm.

Here are some quick tips on how to help. 🫶🏼
Let us know which have worked for your child!

Occupational therapists can also assist with evaluation and treatment if your child struggles with emotional regulation. Please contact us to schedule!

When thinking about targeting words in phrases and sentences, it is important to consider co-articulation and sustaining airflow.

“Co-articulation” refers to the way our sounds are produced slightly differently depending on the surrounding sounds.

“People” in isolation requires a different movement pattern and plan than “I need people”.

“Different” in isolation will be impacted by the surrounding sounds in “need different people”.

It’s important to support the brain’s motor pathways with words not just in isolation - but especially as utterances get more complex and longer!

✨ Check out Anne, speech language pathologist and owner of Strive to Thrive Therapy, work with a client with Childhood Apraxia of Speech ✨

Anne demonstrates incorporating principles of motor equivalence and then linking it to a functional phrase.

“Motor Equivalence”: When first acquiring a new sound in the initial position, we focus on producing it across different vowels (fee, fay, fie, fo, foo).

Then make it functional and increase complexity: Food —> Favorite Food —> Pizza is my favorite food! 🍕
