to a wonderful training with the folks at in Dorchester. Talking about s*xuality and relationship issues as totally distinct from work, family, daily living, etc is an approach that I…don’t love. So I was obviously thrilled to sign on to work with the Work, Inc team to develop trainings and programming for their participants. This lovely morning training was the first step toward empowering team members across disciplines to get more familiar with best practices relating to s*xuality and relationships for autistic adults. Next step, tailored programs to be led by trained staff. Excited to be collaborating this year ☺️☺️

Prepping for group tonight with Better Community Living, and looking forward to a great thought exercise for all; how do we WANT to be perceived in friendship and romantic relationships? For instance, I know my patience runs short especially on long, hot days like today- thinking in a calmer moment how I want to show up as a parent, as a friend, and as a spouse can help me in times when I’m…less calm. If I have a clear vision of an even-keeled version of myself to draw on, it’s easier to set goals to make that happen!

Too often, autistic folks are not asked what their ideas are for personal growth and development. Instead, more emphasis is placed on changing ‘behaviors’ without really understanding the instrinsic motivation and goals of a person. Giving some thought to what type of person we want to be and how we can work toward that is a powerful practice. Love hearing the responses to this question (give this some Thor yourself today!), looking forward to what tonight’s group members have to say 😊

to a little trip downtown…

Access to healthcare is too often a battle for autistic individuals. One barrier to care is poor support for transition from pediatric to adult care. I have loved collaborating with complex care at Tufts Medical Center this year to help develop a transition policy, share supports for families and young adults, and increase access to education and relevant about-me details for adult providers. Last week, we met in person for the first time to record some footage to make a ‘welcome to adult care’ video for patients! It’s been a pleasure working with you, Ann, Wil, Alyssa, Elena, Shirley, and Michelle! Thrilled to see where this project goes next, both at Tufts and as part of the larger collaboration with Boston Children’s that is bringing together pediatric and adult programs across the state.

There is nothing I love more than practical AND creative solutions to challenging problems. Chapters Coffee Cart at the library means you can get a book, a beverage, and a snack all while employing adults with developmental disabilities. Such a win. The cookie, tea, and company were great. Excited to stop by many more times!
