Today we proudly celebrate the installation of a historic marker honoring Chinn-Baker Funeral Service, a legacy rooted in dignity, service, and unwavering commitment to community.

Founded in 1942, this institution stood as a pillar of strength, especially during times when Black families faced exclusion and injustice. Its presence was more than a business, it was a sanctuary of care, respect, and resilience.

We pay special tribute to Robert and Rupert Baker, whose leadership and dedication carried this legacy forward. Their work ensured that generations of families were served with compassion and honor, preserving not only a business, but a vital piece of community history.

This marker stands as a reminder of where we’ve been, the strength it took to get here, and the enduring impact of those who led with purpose.
