🚘 Our friends at Junior League Fort Worth always come through SO BIG for families staying at The Archway. 🚘

We’re incredibly grateful for their generous donation of a new SUV to our Fort Worth Shelter. Reliable transportation can be a major barrier for families rebuilding their lives after abuse, and this gift makes it possible for moms and children to get to critical appointments and take meaningful steps toward safety and stability.

Thank you JLFW for your continued support and for showing up in such a tangible, life-changing way for the families we serve!!

🏆✨ We’re continuing our Archway Attributes Awards to celebrate team members who model our core standards in their work, their leadership, and the way they support one another. These awards are peer-nominated and rooted in how our staff show up for survivors every day. ✨🏆

Next up - please help us celebrate Kristin Cox, our HR Generalist and this year’s honoree for Open Communication!

Kristin creates a culture where people feel informed, supported, and heard, especially during moments of change. Her thoughtful approach to communication helps teams navigate uncertainty with clarity and care, ensuring no one feels left in the dark or left behind.

📢 Here’s what one teammate shared about Kristin:
“While open communication is a clear ‘must have’ for an HR professional, Kristin does so in a manner that is so genuine. During a tough transition period for our team, Kristin clearly communicated what needed to be done (and what didn't!), and she was extremely supportive to the staff who handled the transition. She checked in regularly, listened to our concerns, and gave us concrete ways to address them. She is a wonderful addition to The Archway!”

🎉🏆 This year, we launched our very first The Archway Attributes Awards to honor team members who bring our core standards to life. Staff were invited to nominate colleagues who embody these values in the way they serve survivors and show up for their teams. 🏆🎉

First up - please help us celebrate Alex Velasquez, our Facilities Coordinator and this year’s honoree for Trustworthiness! Alex leads with a deep commitment to creating safe, welcoming spaces for the families in our care. His leadership and heart shape our shelters in ways that matter every single day!

📢 Here’s what one teammate shared about Alex:
“Alex embodies trauma-informed care from an operational perspective. Once he moved into his new leadership role, he asked thoughtful questions about how we can improve our work and always seeks to understand the ‘why’ behind our practices. His servant heart, team spirit, and genuine care for our clients make him an essential part of The Archway. His demeanor, communication style, and respect for boundaries have a significant impact on the residents' sense of safety. He does a great job balancing his checklist and ensuring comfort for each resident.”

I need to tell you about a family who’s been on my mind all week.

A brave mama and her young son, Mason*, came to The Archway’s shelter recently after a night that changed everything. It was the night Mason finally whispered that he was scared of the “monster.”

He meant his dad.

His mom told us she called our hotline that night from their guest bathroom with the water running so he wouldn’t hear her. She said she had no idea if she was doing the right thing, but she couldn’t let her son be afraid in his own home anymore.

They arrived at our shelter the weekend before Thanksgiving, but Mason still keeps his shoes beside the bed, waiting to hear his mom say it’s time to run again. He checks the lock on the door three times before he falls asleep.

His mom says, “I keep telling him we’re safe… I just need us to stay safe long enough for him to believe me.”

But here’s the truth: families like theirs don’t just need a safe room for a few nights. They need time, stability, and support to rebuild their lives after everything they’ve been through.

That’s why I’m posting today.

Giving Tuesday is all about showing up for people in our community who really need our help, and for Mason and his mom, that moment is right now.

If you feel moved to help, your gift made today will support the next part of their journey. It will give them a safe place to stay, legal advocacy, connection to available resources, and everything else it takes for a child to stop sleeping with his shoes waiting next to his bed.

Thank you for caring about families like Mason’s, and thank you for taking time to read important stories like this one.

— Dr. Kathryn Jacob
President & CEO, The Archway

*We’ve changed Mason’s name to keep him and his mom as safe as possible!

🚒 During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we were so grateful to partner with Fort Worth Fire Department - from sharing life-saving information with our community to joining us for a shelter tour earlier this fall! 🚒

As FWFD steps into their expanded role as the licensed EMS provider for local communities, we're especially thankful to welcome them into a NEW role as a vital member of next year's Intimate Partner Violence Fatality Review Team! Their commitment to survivor safety is clear, and we're excited for what this growing partnership will mean for families in Tarrant County.

🎄 We're sending the BIGGEST shoutout to the group of student leaders from Everman ISD who volunteered at Berry Good Buys this week! 🎄

These students are a part of our prevention leadership group and spent the afternoon helping us transform the store for the holidays. We are so, so grateful for these young leaders and the commitment they make to supporting domestic violence survivors all year long!
