A few days ago I sat down with Eric Rush on the Next Level Thinkers podcast for a wide-ranging conversation about appetite, obsession, and what it actually takes to find balance.
We covered my personal journey. Standing in front of a mirror at 14 and deciding I would never lose the battle I watched everyone around me losing. The bodybuilding years with Michelangelo's David's chest-to-waist-to-wrist-to-calf ratio taped to my college wall as the standard I was measuring myself against. Running an impromptu marathon the day after Thanksgiving to burn off the 2,600 calories I had counted down to the last bite--on a treadmill, guilt-ridden, and alone.
We covered what happened when real life showed up. Medical school. Residency. Marriage. Kids. Sixty pounds gained because I could no longer compensate with obsessive exercise and restriction. And the realization that willpower was never the answer.
We covered the science. Why GLP-1s felt like the doors of heaven opening on day one and a stomach bug by week five. Why the standard dosing protocol never lets you stay where you feel your best. And what changes when you actually calculate your medication levels and dose to a target instead of following a fixed escalation.
We covered the deeper question. 75% of the country is overweight. Most of the other 25% are sacrificing everything to stay fit. What if those aren't the only two options?
Give it a watch and let me know if my story resonates with you. If it does, reach out in the comments and let's have a conversation!
