PLEASE CONSIDER THIS — AND CONSIDER RE-POSTING EVERYWHERE YOU CAN…

It’s time for the genealogical and historical communities to stand up loudly and proclaim how much the National Archives and the records in them means to them and to the Nation. Contact their Senators and Representatives.

Save the Jackson New Hampshire Historical Society! Even a few dollars or sharing this post helps!

Capital Campaign - To donate, make a check out to the Jackson Historical Society, PO Box 8, Jackson, NH 03846 or go to https://www.jacksonhistory.org/capital.html where you can donate on line at no cost to us - credit or debit cards accepted. Pledge forms can be found in the entryway of the Society. Sharing this post helps us too!
The Historical Society has publicly launched its capital campaign to Rescue, Restore and Renovate the historic 1879 Town Hall today with a 7-page feature in the Conway Daily Sun. Because it is wedged between the Wildcat River and Black Mountain Road, it is threatened by both. A December flood went under the building and knocked out its furnace. To save the building for the long term, the Society plans to move it about 250’ in the direction of the gazebo.
Once moved, the Society plans to restore it – reglaze and scrape the original windows and add storms, repair the stamped steel ceiling, replace vinyl siding on the riverside with wood clapboards, improve ADA access and paint the building. The Society would also like to connect to a water supply and have an indoor bathroom.
To accomplish the above will cost approximately $1M. This is a daunting amount to raise by a small volunteer-run organization. We will be sending out mailings and having fundraisers. However, a donation now will make the task easier. To date we have raised $325,000 in cash and pledges and have grant applications outstanding for $335,000 with fingers crossed. There is still a long way to go. Your help is appreciated!

The Town Hall has been a centerpiece in Jackson Village for 145 years. Now, climate related storm events are threatening the building. Flooding from the Wildcat River during recent storms, has caused severe bank erosion, undermined the foundation, and destroyed the furnace. On the roadside stormwate...

Tomorrow’s the big day!! Not an April Fools joke! ❤️

It was the first census after World War II. The baby boom had begun. The Great Migration of Black residents from the Jim Crow South to places like Detroit and Chicago was in full swing. And some industrial cities reached their peak populations before Americans started moving to the suburbs.
