Healwell

Healwell Touch. Teach. Advocate. We touch people affected by illness. We teach massage therapists how to provide care safely and effectively.

We advocate for access to that care and for a broader role for massage therapists in healthcare. We all do better when we all do better. Effective, human-centered care is far from standard. Healwell partnerships provide care that prioritizes personal connection, quality of life and outcomes that are valuable from both the patient and provider perspective. We know that this kind of care does not exist in a vacuum and it never relies on a single discipline. When Healwell was founded in 2009, we did not fully understand how interdependent we all are as humans caring for humans. Over the years, as we have partnered with organizations, patients, family caregivers, researchers and others in ways that have opened our eyes to the need to be deeply collaborative. Thoughtful consideration and solutions to issues of racism, equity, access, inclusion and social justice are essential to the path forward toward health, even in the presence of disease. Our programs create and leverage unique synergies between research, service and education to bring all of health care, including massage therapy, to a higher level. A level that humanizes every single human. A level that listens generously. A level that redefines what it means to care. Our hands-on partnerships function not only as sites of compassionate clinical excellence where massage therapy shines its own light, but also augments the value of interventions that have long been considered standard. These collaborations also function as real world labs where we conduct research about important measures like self-efficacy, what it's like to be sick and what it's like to care for people who are sick. They are also our teaching labs where massage therapists and other providers who want to learn with us about how to cultivate deep self-awareness, effective, kind communication skills and personal accountability. Healwell is challenging the traditional silos of health care disciplines to create distinctive opportunities for interdisciplinary education and practice. We know that we'll go farther together, we'll create a broader impact in community and we also know that changing the world is just more fun with friends than it could ever be going it alone.

Registration closes on the 28th and we need 14 more pairs.
DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE (ANYWHERE IN THE US) WITH MODERATE TO SEVERE NEUROPATHY CAUSED BY CHEMOTHERAPY?

Our partners at Mayo Clinic are seeking adult volunteers who have moderate to severe chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) to participate in a study to assess the impact of a family caregiver massage technique that may help cancer survivors with CIPN.

You may be eligible to participate if you:
· Are 18+ years of age
· Have been treated with certain kinds of chemotherapy for any type of cancer at least 6 months ago
· Have moderate to severe symptoms of CIPN (numbness, tingling, or discomfort in the hands or feet)
· Are not currently receiving massage therapy as part of your care

This is pediatric massage therapy where it truly matters—inside the hospital.

This live, four-day course takes place at Children’s National Hospital, where students work directly with pediatric patients across multiple units, including the cardiac ICU, PICU, hematology/oncology, neurology, and heart/kidney units.

This is immersive, supervised clinical practice designed to prepare therapists for the realities of hospital-based pediatric care.

Wishing our community a meaningful Lunar New Year 🌙✨

The Lunar New Year is a time for renewal, reflection, and hope—an opportunity to honor what we’re releasing and welcome what we’re ready to grow. It reminds us that care, like healing, unfolds in cycles and seasons.

As this new year begins, we hold gratitude for community, resilience, and the quiet acts of compassion that carry us forward. May this year bring health, peace, connection, and abundance to you and those you love.

This is what healing can sound like.
When clients share their experience, they remind us that touch can be powerful, meaningful, and deeply human.

This Valentine’s Day, we’re honoring love in all its forms—the quiet kind, the steady kind, the kind that shows up when things are hard.

Love can look like presence. Like compassionate touch. Like making space for comfort, dignity, and relief in the midst of serious illness. At Healwell, we see every day how care rooted in love creates moments of connection that matter deeply.

Today, we celebrate the patients, families, and caregivers who give and receive love in extraordinary ways—and the ripples of healing that love creates. 💗

Massage therapy isn’t only about what happens during a single session. It’s not just about touch in the moment—it’s about what that care makes possible beyond the table. When massage is offered with intention and continuity, it can create ripples of relief, reassurance, and connection that extend far beyond the person receiving it.

This video shares the story of a patient who has received Healwell care since she was just four months old. As we celebrate her 13th birthday, we also honor the web of care that has grown around her over the years. Massage supported not only her body, but offered moments of steadiness for her parents, space to exhale for her healthcare team, and a shared sense of trust that built community during long and uncertain seasons.

This is what relationship-centered care looks like. One massage becomes many moments of support. One connection becomes a lasting bond. We are deeply honored to have walked alongside this family—and to celebrate this remarkable milestone with them. ❤️
