At your child’s 1-year checkup, the pediatrician will ask, “How many words does your child say?”. You may be wondering- what really counts as a word?

In order for any message to count as a word, it must be:
🔹 Consistent- used regularly, not just once
🔹 Intentional- used in the correct context
🔹 Independent- said on its own, without help

Emily earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from James Madison University and master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Stony Brook University. 🎓🗣️

Emily is passionate about designing playful, individualized therapy sessions that support speech, language and feeding development. By combining evidence-based practices with creativity and compassion, she strives to empower every child to grow and succeed in their own unique way. 💫

Originally from Ohio, Rachel brings her talent and passion to our Northern Virginia team. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and her master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. 🎓

Rachel loves incorporating books and music into her speech therapy sessions to make learning fun and engaging. She is trained in the Lindamood-Bell® programs, including LiPS®, Seeing Stars®, and Visualizing and Verbalizing®, for dyslexia, writing remediation, and reading comprehension. 📚✍🏻

When she’s not working, Rachel enjoys spending time her cats, Kiwi and Mac, and going to the movies. 🐱Her favorite animated movie is Zootopia! 🎥🍿
