The Strutt ev¹ is a new power wheelchair that uses an array of sensors to provide a real-time 3D map of its surroundings, enabling features most commonly seen in autonomous vehicles.

Seth McBride tested the ev¹ ahead of its January launch to see whether it would be useful for a wheelchair user looking to navigate his world independently, or whether it would make him feel like a passenger in a robotaxi.

“I tried to run the ev¹ into people, other chairs, and walls, and it simply eased around them, like the path it took was the one I had intended all along. The driver-assist systems were integrated and well-designed, blending into the background. I felt in control within the parameters that it wasn’t going to let me do anything stupid. Is that a good thing? Depends on who you are...”

We are joining together to establish the North Texas Chapter to bring together SCI-related organizations and information in a single, local resource -- www.NorthTexasUSA.org. A one-stop-shop, we have come together to gather the information you need to live your live to the fullest as independently as possible. Whether you’re new to SCI or have a few years rolling around, things are always changing. Learn something new or share your knowledge and experiences with others like you.
