Each year colorectal cancer claims more than 50,000 lives, making it the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the country. March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and a great time to bring attention to this terrible, but largely preventable disease by getting screened. The CDC estimates that 68% of deaths from colorectal cancer could be avoided if all eligible people got screened.
The new age to begin screening is 45. You should start earlier if you have family history or symptoms. BE PROACTIVE! If you have been referred for a colonoscopy or issued a FIT test, please do your part to follow through with the process.
