Try this seated periscapular stretch to open up the muscles around your shoulder blade while adding a gentle downward distraction force for a deeper, more effective stretch.

When the shoulder blade muscles get tight, it can contribute to neck tension, shoulder discomfort, and limited overhead mobility. By adding controlled downward pressure, you help create more space through the shoulder complex and improve tissue mobility.

Key cues:
• lean forward and relax the shoulder
• Apply gentle downward traction through the arm
• Lean slightly away to feel the stretch along the shoulder blade
• Breathe and hold for 20–30 seconds

Small adjustments like this can make a big difference in restoring mobility and reducing strain around the shoulder.

Annmarie Corma is back at JCC Mid-Westchester doing injury prevention for their gymnasts!

👉 Swipe to see some of the exercises she has the gymnasts perform!

1️⃣ Ankle strengthening and mobilization to improve strength and stability for tumbling, landings and jumping as that occurs on all events in gymnastics

2️⃣ Bird dogs to improve core stabilizations along with scapular stability

3️⃣ Shoulder bands to improve posture, scapular strength for swing bars and performing higher level skills with more stability

4️⃣ ½ kneeling stretch to decrease muscle tension to hip flexor and quadricep to improve hip flexibility for splits and leaps

👉 Runners spend most of their time moving in a straight line, neglecting muscles on the sides of our body exposing us them to weak links and possible injuries.

👉 Try the multi position single leg heel raise exercise

👉 This exercise targets the calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) and the posterior tibialis, a key muscle for ankle stability and support. The “multi-position” aspect involves changing the foot angle to emphasize different muscle fibers.
