TAKE ANOTHER DEEP BREATH AND EXHALE... STRETCH YOUR ARMS AND LEGS.....

As we take our journey through life, we are met not only with happy times but with many challenges, obstacles and difficulties. Many of these occurrences are out of our control. Whether it’s a situation or a person, we are unable to change them. No matter how much effort we put forth, the situation or person does not change and we become frustrated, angry or sad and tired. Time for a reality check!!

1. You cannot change another person.
You can offer encouragement,
however, they are responsible for
changing.

2. If you are unable to change a
situation then the key is to change
how you respond to it.

Remember the Serenity Prayer

How to make your own sunshine on a gloomy, rainy day...
1. Call a friend and share funny memories of times together.
2. Take a long relaxing soak in the tub.
3. Watch a funny movie.
4. Write a letter to someone. It could be to a family member or a friend.
5. Call someone that’s very important in your life and thank them for being there for you.
6. Listen to music and sing along.
7. Bake your favorite cookies.
8. Do something funny or silly...blow bubbles, skip rope, look in mirror and make funny faces, march in place.
9. Read that book you’ve been wanting to read.
10. Take you right hand and put it on your left shoulder and leave it there. Take your left hand and put it on your right shoulder and leave it there. Now squeeze your shoulders real tight....
You’ve just given yourself a big hug and hugs make us feel good all over!!!

BELLY BREATHING...Sit in a comfortable chair. Lean back with your arms resting comfortably. Allow your eyes to close gently. Bring the breath in through your nose. Fill up your belly first, then your chest. Relax your stomach muscles and let your stomach expand with the breath. Breathe slowly and take the air in as deep as you can while remaining comfortable. Breathe out through your mouth. Exhale even more slowly than you inhaled. As you exhale, silently tell yourself "relax"
After only a few seconds of this, you will begin to feel the calm. Do this for ten minutes or so once or twice a day. Use this exercise to relieve stress or as an aid to fall asleep...

Difficulty falling asleep or returning to sleep?
Try some of these suggestions....

1. Have some slow down time the last hour befor going to bed, no exercising.
2. If there is a clock in your eyesight, set the alarm if necessary but turn the face of the clock away from you. There’s no need to know what time it is if you wake up. If it’s still dark, it’s sleep time. If you look at the clock to see what time it is, your mind starts playing negative thoughts like “ Now, I’ve only got so much time to sleep”
3. Take all your problems, things you need to do, things you have to do, regrets, frustration and imagine you are putting them in a box, put a lid on the box and tell yourself..yes, all these things are part of my life but not now. This is my time to rest, to sleep. I give myself permission to let my mind and body sleep.
4. Do muscle tensing and releasing exercises, starting with your head and go to your toes, tightening each muscle and then letting go. This helps reduce tension in our bodies.
5. Practice deep breathing exercises.
6. Listen to relaxing music.
7. Meditate..If money and time were no object, take your mind on a perfect vacation.
8. Do autogenic exercises...I feel calm,
I feel quiet, my breathing is slow and steady, my whole body feels heavy and comfortably warm.
9. Listen to a relaxation CD, an appt on your phone, sound machines.
10. Starting with A and go to Z naming positive things in your life that start with each letter.

Sometimes we get so busy and caught up in our daily lives, we tend to get our priorities confused. We forget the really important things in our lives and their order of importance....

List of Priorities....

1. If you have a Higher Power, God, then, that’s #1

2. Self...if you don’t take care of yourself, then you can’t take care of others

3. Family...the core of your life. Caring, sharing and growing together

4. Friends...your appendages. A supplement to family.

5. Job...is at the bottom of the list! Yes we need to work, to be responsible. Important to remember that it’s a job not a life! When job becomes #1, a person many times will lose sight of a Higher Power, self, family and friends.
