Hi I usually post to our TorChell Mind and Body Support group but felt that this post would be great to share here as well!
How are you doing during these trying times? I am asking because it is of course change and change can make or break many of us.
We in this group are not on a diet, but instead on a journey towards better health. It keeps coming up that one needs to be as healthy as they can in order to fight this virus if you happen to contract it. Please keep up with your journey on eating the right foods and getting your Vitamin C as mentioned earlier, along with
Vitamin D Please take a look at the many studies, reminding us how important it is for our immune system.
I have heard from a few of you that it is hard to stay on track with the stress that is currently happening in the world. Please, please, please, remember that this isnāt all or nothing now during these difficult times
or when we are not having difficult times. But instead it is learning to find a happy place with foods that sustain us and give us a healthy, strong body, and foods that make us feel energized and satisfied.
Some of us are eating because of nerves, boredom and comfort. If we are eating due to emotions, we would benefit from focusing on finding a nonfood method for coping with stress.
One of the biggest things that could help many of us is to not beat ourselves up when we do allow ourselves to eat things that we may deem otherwise unhealthy. Accept that we will have obstacles and make a plan of action for regrouping when an obstacle gets in our way.
Put faith in you and not a diet. Believe that you are making the right choices for yourself and your body. Your body will tell you when something is not working for it. Let your body speak to you and learn to listen to it. When we do this we make healthier choices and when we make healthier choices we have less anxiety over food.
Emotions change daily and sometimes hourly, therefore it can be hard to stop in the moment when the emotions steer you towards food. If emotions are running the show with your food choices, it may be time
to use your inner dialogue. Ask yourself first why are you reaching for the food is it a physical or emotional hunger? If you find that it is an emotional hunger use your inner dialogue to sway yourself away and on to a different non-food project.
Keep in mind that being healthy is never about eliminating foods, labeling foods or shaming ourselves for eating foods that are considered āoff limitsā but instead it is a constant dance of finding what works for each of us individually for our own optimal health. And we will at times consume foods, alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages that may contribute to weight gain, health conditions and making us not feel good in general. If and when this does happen, breathe, be nice to yourself and then regroup.
So during these difficult times, letās stay positive (when we can) letās eat as clean and healthy as we can.
Exercise, drink enough water, and then repeat!
Most importantly, be kind to yourself and forgive yourself when it seems that you are heading in the wrong direction. Just stop and regroup.
