At this Winter Solstice time, I'd like to highlight some people whose work it is to bring LIGHT into the world. I'll start with my friends from LifeSpark! I've known about them for a long time, and my dear friend Bob O'Connell was an active volunteer for many years. I was so thrilled when we moved offices last spring, and lo and behold! The Winter Solstice: A Promise of Returning Light

The solstice arrives
like a slow sigh,
its breath settling over the earth
as though the world itself pauses
to rest in this stillness

The sun lingers
only briefly,
a pale visitor in the winter sky,
yet even in its fleeting warmth
it carries a lesson:
every ending holds
the seed of a beginning,
and every shadow
hints at the light's gentle return.

Silence thickens
over the frozen ground,
covering the fields,
the trees, the frozen streams,
in a soft, waiting hush.

The world seems to listen,
to the turning of time,
to the slow arc of days,
to a promise of returning light
that will stretch longer,
grow warmer,
and awaken the sleeping soil
once more.

Even now, in the stillness,
there is a whisper:
that nothing is truly lost,
that beneath the frost
life dreams quietly
of its own resurgence,
and the earth, patient as ever,
holds the rhythm of renewal
in its frozen hands.
