Happy New Year!
A lot of people are rethinking healthcare costs, insurance, and what actually delivers value.

Here’s one perspective that changed how I think about it:

A routine CBC can cost less than a cup of coffee when paid for directly.

Which raises an honest question:

Would you ever engage a third party to negotiate, approve, and bill you for something as inexpensive and straightforward as a cup of coffee?

That’s effectively what we do when we use insurance for routine primary care.

Insurance is a powerful financial tool — but it was designed for rare, expensive, unpredictable events, not for everyday care.

Using insurance for primary care is like asking SpaceX to deliver your groceries.

You can.
That doesn’t mean it makes sense.

This shift has saved me — and many people I work with — thousands of dollars a year and a lot of unnecessary stress.

Dr. Allen and I didn’t build Unbound Direct Health because we wanted to run a business.

We built it because the system that was supposed to care for us—and for you—kept breaking people like us.

We were single moms, clinicians, trauma survivors.
We asked for care, and we were punished for it.
We asked for integrity, and we were pushed out.

So we built something new.

Something rooted in dignity, transparency, and soul.
Something that remembers care is a human act, not a corporate function.
