When it comes to your child’s development… it’s not just about anatomy.

In this episode of Conversations that Matter, Speech + Myofunctional Therapist Perrin White shares a powerful perspective:

Yes—structure matters.
But so does function, behavior, awareness, and connection.

For many children, challenges with breathing, feeding, or development aren’t caused by just one thing. It could involve:
• Airway considerations
• Oral function and muscle patterns
• Expansion or structural support
• Or simply learning how to breathe and use the body more effectively

But beyond all of that—there’s a child, and there’s a family.

Real progress happens when we combine clinical insight with connection, mindfulness, and collaboration—creating those “aha” moments that lead to meaningful change.

🚀 While the world watched Artemis II launch to the moon yesterday… we realized something.

Some of that same technology? It’s already in our office. 🦷

NASA has long pioneered innovations that quietly made their way into everyday life — and dentistry is no exception.

✨ Lasers — originally developed for space research, now used in our office for gentle, drillless procedures 🔬 3D CBCT imaging — the same kind of precision imaging used in aerospace, letting us see your child’s full anatomy before we ever touch a tooth 💡 LED curing lights — rooted in NASA’s LED research for plant growth in space, now hardening restorations in seconds 📷 Intraoral cameras (Sopro) — inspired by the miniaturized camera tech built for space exploration, now giving us a crystal-clear view inside little mouths

We’re not saying we’re launching kids to the moon. 😄 But we are committed to bringing the most advanced, gentle technology to every child who sits in our chair.

Because your child deserves out-of-this-world care. 🌍

📩 Curious about how we use technology to make dentistry easier for your child? Send us a message.

Every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and cared for—especially in healthcare spaces.

On World Autism Awareness Day, we recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of every child while reaffirming our commitment to creating a sensory-informed, non-restrictive environment for children with autism and diverse needs.

At Ashburn Children’s Dentistry & Womb 2 Grow Wellness, we take the time to meet each child where they are. That means:
• Honoring sensory sensitivities
• Creating calm, supportive experiences
• Moving at a pace that feels comfortable for the child
• Building trust—one visit at a time

Because when children feel safe, they can truly thrive.

💙 Help us spread awareness by sharing this message and supporting inclusive, compassionate care for all children.

🚓 ALERT: Two dentists arrested in Virginia!

Their crime?
Helping kids breathe better, grow properly, and develop healthy smiles.

Authorities say they were caught educating parents about airway health, prevention, and early oral development.

Don’t worry… no dentists were actually arrested. 😄
This is just our April Fools’ Day prank!

But the mission behind it is very real — helping families understand that dentistry can support so much more than just teeth.

When someone says:“Crowded teeth are just genetics.”

Here’s the truth: it’s often not just genetics—it’s how the face develops over time.

Factors like tongue posture, breathing patterns, and oral function can influence whether there’s enough space for teeth to come in properly.

When these factors aren’t optimized early, the jaws may not develop to their full potential—leading to crowding later on.

The good news?
There are ways to support healthy development early.

By focusing on breathing, function, and growth, we can help create the conditions for better alignment—before braces are even part of the conversation.

Before BabyLase?! No way, no how.

The mild warmth of the light produced by BabyLase can help tightened, restrictive tissue to soften and relax into a more functional position. Having 1-3 sessions prior to a tie release ensures the easiest, most painless procedure possible! It also provides the doctors with an optimal visual for surgery.

“Before we came, she was struggling with moving her tongue, swallowing, and latching.”

Many parents hear things like:
“It’s normal.”
“They’ll grow out of it.”
“Just keep trying.”

But sometimes babies are working much harder than they should during feeds.

This mom noticed improvements after treatment and support:
✨ Less clicking during feeding
✨ Less choking
✨ Better tongue movement
✨ More coordinated swallowing

And one of the sweetest signs of progress?
Her baby now sticks her tongue out playfully and moves it with ease.

Little changes in tongue function can make a big difference in feeding comfort and coordination.
If your baby is:
• clicking during feeds
• choking or coughing while feeding
• struggling to latch
• feeding for very long periods

It may be worth taking a closer look.

When parents first see the Neonatal ALF, many notice the small appliance and the attached string and immediately wonder:
Is this safe for my baby?
Is it uncomfortable?
Why would a baby need something like this?

The Neonatal ALF (Advanced Lightwire Functional) is a gentle, custom appliance designed specifically for infants to support early palate shape, tongue posture, neuromyofunction, and airway development during an important window of growth.

Unlike traditional orthodontic appliances, this isn’t about moving teeth. In babies, it’s about supporting function and development—including how the tongue interacts with the palate, how the airway develops, and how babies coordinate breathing and feeding.

Appliances like this have been used for decades in babies born with cleft lip and palate to help guide oral structures and support feeding and airway function.

What’s changed is our understanding:
Early support can make a meaningful difference in how the tongue, palate, breathing patterns, and neuromuscular coordination develop.

And yes — the small string you see often raises questions, but it actually serves a specific purpose for safety and easy removal.

Parent questions are always welcome, because understanding your baby’s development is important.

Ever wondered what a pediatric dentist actually does all day? 😅

It’s definitely more than just looking at teeth.

From exams and cleanings to calming nervous kids, answering parent questions, evaluating growth and development, and even handing out plenty of high-fives and stickers — every day is a little different.

And yes… sometimes it also includes singing songs to help kids feel comfortable in the chair. 🎵

Being a pediatric dentist means helping children build healthy habits, positive dental experiences, and confident smiles that last a lifetime.

💬 Parents — what do you think is the hardest part of bringing kids to the dentist?
