Residents went on a book adventure to Ashburn Elementary School to celebrate Read Across America. This year’s theme is “Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers”. Over two hundred students from kindergarten to 5th grade excitedly trickled into the library. Residents enjoyed stepping into a Storybook World, bringing many fun characters to life for the students. Upon leaving, residents donated twenty-five new literary treasures to the school library.

John and his wife Moon spent much of their life together traveling. No matter where they went, they always made time to enjoy a local opera or orchestra. It was one of the first things John shared with us when he moved into Waltonwood. He made it clear how meaningful those performances were to their marriage.

Thanks to our Adventure program, John and Moon enjoyed a beautiful evening at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. They attended the Washington National Opera Orchestra featuring the Cafritz Young Artists. The performance was stunning and stirred up cherished memories.

After the show, we were not ready for the night to end. Therefore, on the way back to Waltonwood we stopped for a sweet treat at Rita’s. We spent an hour talking about childhood, parenthood, and family life. It was the kind of conversation you feel connected to long after the moment has passed.

It was an evening filled with music, memories and connection. An evening we were honored to share with them. 💚

It was puppy pandemonium at Waltonwood! Heeling House located in Leesburg, Virginia brought seven of its 8 to 10 month old labrador retrievers for human socialization. We were under siege with absolute cuteness. Heeling House professionally trains therapy and service dogs to do life-changing work. The organization breeds raises, trains and places service dogs with children ages 5 to 18 in the DMV area. These dogs assist with mobility issues, psychiatric conditions, and autism. They also provide basic training, daycare, grooming, and more. Part of the puppies’ training is socializing with humans. Which, the residents loved having a hand and paw in. It was an official puppy takeover. We look forward to their next visit.

Residents traveled from Asia to New Orleans in one week celebrating Lunar New Year and Mardi Gras. Everyone donned red and gold while sipping tea, eating fortune cookies and spring rolls with duck sauce. Decorations quickly switched and residents changed into purple, green and gold attire. They enjoyed shrimp étouffée, jambalaya, gumbo and partied the night away with the jazz band Confirmation.

Today we kicked off Random Acts of Kindness Week in the sweetest way! 💛 Our residents surprised the management team with heartfelt art gifts, sharing creativity and joy. Our associates joined in the kindness fun, helping residents create friendship bracelets to give as special gifts. Then, our Kindness Cart made the rounds, delivering surprise sweet treats and sprinkling extra happiness throughout the community!

Kindness is contagious — and we’re just getting started! ✨

Lots of smiles and love were shared at our Sweetheart Ball today 🌹 The residents enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, live music, dancing and plenty of socializing — along with capturing special moments and sweet photos together. Events like these are the sweetest reminder that love and friendship never go out of style! ♥️

Happy Birthday to our resident, Joy! 🌸

One of Joy’s favorite programs is anything involving flowers, so for her special day we brought in a beautiful variety of blooms just for her. Joy and her peers had a wonderful time creating their own unique flower jars, each one as special as the person who made it. Their lovely creations are now displayed throughout our community for everyone to enjoy.

Residents were extremely jubilant and spirited as we celebrated one of the biggest national events of the year, the Super Bowl. They enjoyed a themed dinner with burgers, hotdogs and french fries. Then, made their way to the tailgate party for chicken wings and cheesy nachos. The high energy event was filled with roaring cheers and buzzing with excitement. Friendly competition cascaded throughout the room. The evening was lively, electric and filled with unforgettable moments.

We took full advantage of the wonderful snowfall here in Ashburn by hosting a festive “Snow Day” for our residents!

The day was filled with interactive stations. From sipping delicious hot cocoa and shopping at our Winter Market to creating personalized snow globes and showing off creative skills with snow sculptures. The fun didn’t stop there. We were also joined by a very special guest, Toby the golden doodle, who was especially hopeful he could take a few cookies home with him!

I think it’s safe to say—this snow day was a total success! ❄️☕️

Dollywood continued at Waltonwood Ashburn with more fun filled programs. We hosted Dolly inspired crafting, had a visit from Baby Dolly, baked Dolly’s recipe for lemon coconut cookies and a visit from Sassy the Pony. We wrapped up Dollywood with a birthday party happy hour with a visit from our very own Dolly!

It was a fabulous week of Dolly programming, making memorable moments with residents, family, and staff.

Yee haw! Everyone had a darn tootin’ good time at the Rhinestones and Revelry Parton-ty in honor of Dolly Parton’s upcoming 80th birthday. Residents enjoyed Dolly’s sweet and savory mini biscuits while sipping an Islands in the Stream cocktail. During the shindig, Dolly made a surprise appearance & even sang some of her hit songs. After schmoozing with Dolly, the residents enjoyed a Smoky Mountain Feast of some more of Dolly’s favorites like chicken and dumplings, Mac n’ ribs and peach cobbler.

Residents got in the Dolly spirit with adaptive country line dancing. Everyone had a blast, a western shindig to remember!
