Cambriaโs nominator shares the story behind why she was chosen for the DAISY Award at Randolph Health-
"She exemplifies the very heart and soul of what this award represents-compassion, strength, and a deep commitment to patient and family-centered care. To truly understand why Cambria is so deserving of this recognition, one must understand the journey that has shaped her into the extraordinary nurse she is today.
"Cambria began her nursing career in the Emergency Department, where she spent several years caring for patients across the lifespan, from newborns to the elderly, from those with minor injuries to those in critical condition. She was often present during some of lifeโs most vulnerable moments, including the passing of patients, where she offered comfort and support to grieving families with grace and empathy.
"Eventually, Cambria followed her heart and transferred to Maternity Services. Not long after, she discovered she was expecting a child. Tragically, complications during childbirth led to the heartbreaking loss of her daughter. Cambria and her family were given precious but limited time to hold and say goodbye to their beautiful baby girl, Ellie Faith. During her medical leave, Cambria endured unimaginable grief. Yet, from this pain emerged a profound sense of purpose. She became a fierce advocate for patients and their families, determined to ensure that others in similar situations would have more time to say goodbye to their loved ones.
"Motivated by her love for Ellie Faith and a desire to honor her daughterโs memory, Cambria researched ways to provide grieving families with more time to spend with their babies. She discovered the Cuddle Cot, a device used in many hospitals to allow families to spend additional time with their infants after death, preserving the babyโs body and creating space for meaningful goodbyes.
"Cambria reached out to a nonprofit organization, Butterflies and Birdies, and shared her story. Moved by her courage and passion, the organization donated a Cuddle Cot to Randolph Health, even traveling across state lines to deliver it in person.
"Cambriaโs strength in the face of personal tragedy, and her unwavering commitment to improving the experiences of others, is nothing short of inspiring. Her actions have already made a lasting impact, and her advocacy ensures that Ellie Faithโs legacy will live on-bringing comfort, time, and healing to families who need it most.
"Cambria may never fully grasp the depth of the difference she has made, but we do. It is my sincere hope that she is honored with the DAISY Award, so she knows just how proud we are of her, and how deeply her compassion and courage have touched the lives of so many."
