• FACULTY COORDINATOR: Help manage clinic and call schedules, support faculty, and coordinate student placements at our Internal Medicine clinic on our beautiful Biltmore campus. Regular attendance onsite is an essential function of this position.

• X-RAY TECHNOLOGIST: Maintain and operate radiology equipment and take diagnostic x-rays at MAHEC Family Health Center at Enka/Candler. This role also assists with daily activities of coordinating patient care and clinical staff duties as assigned by RN Clinical Manager.

MAHEC Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Dr. Carol Coulson (center) has been awarded the Dr. William Brannan Professorship in Women’s Health, an endowment established by the beloved late Dr. Brannan and other generous donors to support ongoing innovation, mentorship, and service in ob/gyn care.

Dr. Coulson has been a dedicated leader and tireless advocate for maternal health at MAHEC for more than 25 years. Her tenure has been marked by a steadfast commitment to advancing maternal and fetal health, mentoring generations of clinicians and researchers, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation for WNC.

This professorship not only recognizes her remarkable achievements but also celebrates the profound impact she’s had on patients, their families, trainees, and colleagues alike.

Wheeeee! Last week we celebrated the opening of MAHEC Health Center at Cullowhee, offering Family Health, Ob/Gyn, and Behavioral Health services at our newest satellite, located in the Health and Human Sciences Building adjacent to the main WCU campus, at 3971 Little Savannah Road.

Supporting Excellence in Graduate Medical Education

The Office of Graduate Medical Education provides support for Medical Residency and Fellowship Programs participating in graduate medical education at the Mountain Area Health Education Center. MAHEC is a participating member of the National Resident Matching Program, Dental National Matching Service, and other advanced residency and fellowship matching programs.

We are pleased to support MAHEC’s three family medicine residency programs located in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Boone, NC, and residency programs in dentistry, obstetrics and gynecology, pharmacy, psychiatry, and surgery. Our office also supports post-residency fellowships in sports medicine and hospice and palliative medicine.
