MAHEC is looking for a compassionate, collaborative physician leader to help guide our Family Medicine Clinics, which includes an accredited residency program. This role is all about supporting high‑quality patient care, fostering a strong learning environment, and partnering with an amazing team of clinicians, educators, and staff.

On Alum Day Monday, we proudly recognize and are grateful for Erica F. Wilson, MD, MPH, Medical Director of the Medical Consultation Unit in the Division of Public Health, NC Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Wilson, who completed her Family Medicine residency training at MAHEC in 2017, is a leading public health authority whose work and expertise are front and center as cases rise across the state.

Welcome to Dr. Christi Hunt, our newest provider at MAHEC Health Center at Cullowhee!

Dr. Hunt is an ob/gyn with 25 years' experience in contraceptive counseling/ management, menopausal care, infertility treatment, laparoscopic surgery + a wide range of minor and major gynecologic surgical procedures.

She is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care and is especially passionate about supporting women through all stages of their reproductive and menopausal transitions. Welcome, Dr. Hunt!

Dr. Blake Fagan is our Clinical Director of Substance Use Disorders; Christian Kaufman is a nurse practitioner and Clinical Director of Project CARA, our perinatal substance use disorder program for pregnant and parenting people.

Supporting Excellence in Graduate Medical Education

The Office of Graduate Medical Education provides support for Medical Residency and Fellowship Programs participating in graduate medical education at the Mountain Area Health Education Center. MAHEC is a participating member of the National Resident Matching Program, Dental National Matching Service, and other advanced residency and fellowship matching programs.

We are pleased to support MAHEC’s three family medicine residency programs located in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Boone, NC, and residency programs in dentistry, obstetrics and gynecology, pharmacy, psychiatry, and surgery. Our office also supports post-residency fellowships in sports medicine and hospice and palliative medicine.
