Michael Hicks, Empathetic Wellness Advocate for the Elderly, Injured, and Disabled
Drawing from my 32 years of personal experience with a crippling condition, I have dedicated my life to promoting pain management and quality of life for those who suffer. Passionate about raising awareness among individuals without chronic pain, I help others understand the vital need for access to steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, cold dips, and therapy pools for the elderly, injured, and disabled. By sharing my own experiences and insights, I bridge the gap between those who cannot relate to the level of suffering endured by individuals in chronic pain, fostering empathy and support for improved quality of life. Through my advocacy, I strive to make a significant impact on the lives of those in need, championing holistic wellness and compassionate understanding.

Prioritize Health and Wellness for All at the New Asheville YMCA

Impact on the Elderly, Injured, and Disabled
The new YMCA in Asheville, North Carolina, is at risk of leaving behind the elderly, injured, and disabled members of our community. These individuals, who struggle daily with pain, rely on facilities like hot tubs and steam rooms to maintain and improve their quality of life.

The Importance of Inclusive Facilities
The current plans for the new Asheville YMCA do not include a hot tub and may exclude a steam room. Additionally, the temperature of the existing therapy pool has been reduced, displacing many who rely on warmer water for therapeutic benefits. This lack of accommodation for those with chronic pain and mobility issues highlights the need for a dedicated Health and Wellness Center within the YMCA. We are calling for the addition of a fifth floor to the new downtown YMCA, which would include a hot tub, steam room, sauna, cold dip, and therapy pool.

The Time to Act is Now
Now is the time to take action and ensure that the new YMCA in Asheville meets the needs of all its members, including the elderly, injured, and disabled. Without these crucial facilities, many people in our community will have limited options for managing their pain and maintaining their health. Many alternatives are either too expensive or have closed their therapy areas due to high operating costs.

We urge you to sign this petition, like our page, and share our message with local newspapers and news channels. By taking action now, we can make a difference for those in our community who rely on accessible and affordable health and wellness facilities. Remember, the majority of people do not experience chronic pain, but it is vital that we advocate for those who do.
