🎅Santa visited his favorite NICU and Mission NICU's tiny new arrivals!

While no family wants to spend their baby's first Christmas in the hospital, the Mission Hospital team goes above and beyond to fill the season with warmth and cheer—complete with Santa’s visit, a cuddly stuffed animal and a “Baby’s First Christmas” ornament for each little one.

Big thank you to our Family Support Network of WNC for organizing and hosting the event, Preemies of the Carolinas for donating the handmade outfits and hats for the baby's first Christmas, the NICU staff for always taking amazing care of each baby and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus for making a special guest appearance.

Please remember to never leave items in a crib with your baby; these photos were taken under the supervision of NICU medical professionals and all items were immediately removed.

If you’re not feeling merry and bright this holiday season, you’re not alone. The holidays can be a joyful time, but they can also bring anxiety and emotional strain. Knowing the symptoms of depression can help you recognize when you’re feeling more than seasonal stress.

If you’re struggling with depression, these tips from the National Alliance on Mental Illness may help you manage it better so you can enjoy holiday festivities:

🎯 Be aware of your personal triggers.
✍️ Try journaling or writing a gratitude list to shift your perspective.
📅 Do your best to avoid overscheduling – it’s okay to say no.
🛑 Set boundaries with people who make you feel negative emotions.
🧘 Make time for relaxation, deep breathing or meditation to help ease stress.
🍷 Drink in moderation as alcohol can amplify negative emotions.

Across our broader HCA Healthcare system of care, we are part of an integrated network of mental health and wellness facilities, comprising over 50 inpatient facilities and more than 200 outpatient programs across 15 states. If you’re looking for mental health support, we’re here for you. Learn more about Mission Health's mental health and wellness services: https://bit.ly/492FBTl

Little miss Lucy Lou Who arrived at Mission Hospital in her holiday best to deck the halls and spread some cheer! 🎄🐶

Our trained pet therapy teams lend a helping paw to bring comfort and reduce anxiety for our patients, visitors and colleagues during each visit. Along with the obvious emotional benefits of adoring pets, studies have shown that the presence of animals has a positive effect on human physiology. Pet therapy can decrease a patient’s blood pressure and heart rate. But most of all, these furry friends make all of us feel loved and at ease.

Thank you to Lucy, Cheri, and all of our incredible pet therapy teams for all they do to ! Learn more at: https://bit.ly/3MVExJH

is an irregular or rapid heartbeat, also known as atrial fibrillation (AFib), often triggered by binge drinking. Alcohol consumption tends to spike between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day so, while holiday heart syndrome can happen any time of year, it's most common during the holiday season. And it can show up when you least expect it – especially after too much alcohol, stress or salty food – so be on the lookout for these warning signs:

😴 Fatigue
😵‍💫 Dizziness
💓 Heart palpitations
😮‍💨 Difficulty breathing
💢 Chest discomfort

If you notice any of these symptoms, it could be more than just the holiday hustle and bustle. Know where to go in case of an emergency: https://bit.ly/3MYsF9J

Yesterday, Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and the big guy himself 🎅 dropped off hundreds of toys donated from the community to Mission Children's for our pediatric patients to enjoy this holiday season. These toys will bring joy to children at Mission Children's Specialists, Mission Children's Hospital and our pediatric patients at Sweeten Creek Mental Health & Wellness Center.

"Every toy donated is more than a gift - it's a moment of joy and comfort for a child who truly needs it. The generosity of Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and our community is helping to bring the magic of the holidays to children facing difficult medical journeys and the families who are supporting them." said Amber Hyman, RN, Mission Children's Specialists Manager

Thank you to our Sheriff's Office crew and Santa for stopping by to spend some time with these little ones and for all the generosity delivered through these gifts! Check out the coverage from WLOS ABC 13: https://bit.ly/4a9GZpz

Chest pain feels different for everyone – it can be a dull ache or a sudden, sharp stabbing sensation. Regardless of how it feels, it’s important to take chest pain seriously. If the discomfort sticks around, it could be a sign of a more serious, potentially life-threatening condition like a heart attack or a blood clot.

Last year across our broader HCA Healthcare network, our emergency rooms saw nearly 838,000 visits related to cardiac complaints. You know your body better than anyone. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. And if your chest pain is severe or accompanied by any of the symptoms shown here, seek emergency care immediately.
