Mission Hospital patient Kyndle wrote a sweet letter to her care teams saying, “I felt like I was the only patient there because of the amount of attention, consideration and promptness the nurses showed me.”

While that line, alone, speaks volumes about the extraordinary difference our colleagues and providers make in the lives of our patients, Kyndle and her family also returned to Mission to share more of her experience with our Labor and Delivery and Mom-Baby teams.

No matter what you’ve got cooking this , remember to prioritize safety. In crowded kitchens and around deep fryers, accidents can happen fast. Each year around Thanksgiving, there’s an increase in cooking-related burn injuries, and unattended cooking is the primary cause, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Follow these tips for what to avoid if you or someone else needs .

If you suffer a mild or first-degree burn, the affected area may swell or turn red. You can treat these burns at home with simple first aid steps:

🧼Clean the area with soap and cool water.
🧴Apply a thin layer of ointment.
🩹Dress the wound with sterile non-stick gauze.
đź’ŠTake over-the-counter medication to manage pain.

For more serious burns, immediate medical attention is critical. You can always find help fast at your local emergency room – but for complex cases, specialized care is available at the Mission Burn and Wound Center, located at Mission Hospital, our burn specialists provide services to residents from across Western North Carolina.

new screening technologies can detect lung cancer at early stages – often before obvious symptoms like a persistent cough or hoarseness appear. Early detection saves lives. Across our broader HCA Healthcare system of care, the Sarah Cannon Cancer Network treats over 12,000 lung cancer cases annually, giving us deep insight into how early intervention can make all the difference.

You may qualify for lung cancer screening if you’re a current or former smoker, or if you have prolonged exposure to secondhand smoke. Learn more about our lung cancer diagnostic and treatment services: https://bit.ly/4oIXBsT

“I don’t just care about my patients and what physically is going wrong with them. I would rather them remember me as someone that made them feel safe and comfortable, and acknowledged and loved and cared for. Sometimes that’s even more important than the physical part,” Allie, RN, Surgical Trauma ICU 💙

This month, Allie was featured in Mars Hill University: The Magazine as an MHU Judge-McRae School of Nursing graduate and nurse in Mission Hospital's STICU. She details her experience growing from a Certified Nursing Assistant to completing her BSN and fulfilling her calling as a full-time RN.

Thank you, Allie, for exemplifying our commitment to compassionate care.

Today, and every day, we honor the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We are proud to recognize our veteran colleagues, patients and families whose service and sacrifice embody our mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

We're also proud to be part of HCA Healthcare, an organization that has hired more than 65,000 veterans, active-duty and reserve personnel and military spouses since 2012. Today, HCA Healthcare announced they will give $150,000 to multiple veteran support organizations in honor of Veterans Day.

This Veterans Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have honorably served for their courage, commitment and selflessness.

Mission Health has enjoyed a decades-long relationship with Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry in service to the community, recognizing the importance of their crisis support programs for individuals, families and veterans across the county. Today, we had the privilege of joining them once again to honor those who have served at their annual Veterans Day Luncheon where Mission Hospital Chief Operating Officer Michael Barbera, United States Air Force Veteran, delivered welcome remarks.

Our colleagues continue to join ABCCM regularly as volunteers, serving meals, supporting residents and lending helping hands in their warehouse and crisis centers. We thank them for their work and for inviting us to stand side-by-side honoring our veterans.

is the leading cause of cancer-related death according to the CDC. Many people don’t know the hidden risks they may be exposed to every day. Common lifestyle risk factors include:

🚬Smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke
đź’¨Exposure to radon, a colorless and odorless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil
🦠Inhaling hazardous chemicals like asbestos, uranium and other toxic products
🏭Exposure to particle pollution, such as inhaling tiny particles from exhaust smoke
🎗️Prior radiation to treat other cancers

In addition to lifestyle risk factors, a family history of lung cancer may also increase your risk. Fortunately, lung cancer is most treatable when it’s caught early. Across our larger HCA Healthcare system of care, Sarah Cannon Cancer Network treats over 12,000 cases each year, bringing deep experience and compassionate care to every patient.
