Over 200 middle and high school students from across Western North Carolina joined us at Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville for MAHEC's 25th Annual Health Careers Education & Awareness Conference!

From tourniquet training to moulage artistry, students got hands-on with real-world healthcare skills while meeting professionals who inspire the next generation of providers. As MAHEC CEO Dr. William Hathaway reminded us, by 2036 our nation could face an 86,000 physician shortage, and it's our mission to prepare young people now to fill that gap, right here in the mountains.

This year's theme, Roots to Resilience, celebrates the strength of our region and the power of investing in tomorrow's healthcare workforce.

The future of healthcare depends on a strong, sustainable workforce.

Megan Mills Anderson knows how to build it. As the Workforce Development Project Manager at Northwest AHEC, Megan partners across North Carolina to align education, employers, and community so that students can step into careers where they’re most needed.
