I am reaching out to seek your support for two of Western North Carolina’s dedicated county deputy sheriff who have recently faced significant hardships due to the recent hurricane.

Officer 1 has lost everything in the storm, including his home, and is urgently in need of a rental property. Additionally, he requires essential furniture, clothing, and shoes to help him rebuild his life.
Officer 2 is dealing with extensive damage to his home and requires repairs, including sheetrock work, to make it livable again.
Both of these officers have served our community with unwavering dedication, and now it’s our turn to support them in their time of need.

We are seeking donations of:
Officer 1
◦ Rental property leads in WNC
◦ Furniture (beds, couches, tables, etc.)
◦ Clothing and shoes
Officer 2
◦ Monetary donations for repairs
◦ Assistance with sheetrock work and other home repairs
If you can help in any way, please reach out to me directly Cynthia at 828-333-8287.

No contribution is too small, and every bit helps in restoring their lives.

Thank you for your generosity and support during this challenging time. Together, we can make a difference for those who protect and serve us!

Executive function encompasses so many things. Trouble with these areas can make it hard to focus, follow directions, and handle emotions, among other things.

Dear Teachers, Coaches, Class and team leaders:

I want to tell you something about inclusion. It might be uncomfortable. It might not look pretty on stage. It might not score you lots of goals. It might ruin your vibe. It might disrupt your class. It might make you frustrated. It might not even make you feel warm and fuzzy in the end.

Do it anyway.

Inclusion is not an event. It's not a performance or a game. It's a process. A mindset. A commitment to acceptance and an inherent belief that whatever one brings to the table is worth having. It's a way of life.

Don't tell me it's not a good fit and expect me to go away. Tell me what's required and ask me what my child needs to meet your expectations. Work with me to develop accommodations and modifications.

Don't get discouraged if it doesn't seem to work. No one achieves seamless inclusion. It's clunky. It's messy. It may look like it's working for just 5 minutes of a class or practice. It may take a long time.

Keep trying.

If you run a private class or sport, you are under no legal obligation to include everyone. But you should feel a moral one. Because when your other students see you showing patience, kindness and acceptance, they will learn to also. And THAT may be the most important thing they take away from your class.

Let that be the "perfection" you strive for.
