Here's some real talk from a new mama, who happens to be a news anchor. Family leave is a luxury in this country, and is considered a basic right in most other developed countries. Postpartum doulas fill some of the gap of the lack of support in this country, but ideally, families would be able to spend the weeks after birth all nestled in together.

When you're packing your birth bag, throw a couple combs in there!

"Using a comb during labor is just one of the many simple but effective ways to reduce the pain of contractions. Pick one up for cheap at a dollar store and throw it in your hospital bag! Be sure to tell your partner and/or doula you want to try the technique so they can help you remember when the time comes"

Did you know a comb can be used during labor?! And no its not for your hair.

When gripped in your hands, a comb can help hit acupuncture points in your hands.

It also plays into the gate control pain theory. This theory states that the brain can only focus on a select number of sensations. Because the nerve endings are closer on your hands they reach your brain faster. Helping your body forget about the contractions.

ETA: For those who have asked how to hold it Having the comb hit at the base of the fingers (across the palm of your hand).
