It's that time again. The annual NC Bicycle Helmet Initiative free helmet application is open. Did you know that wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of severe brain injury by 88 percent, yet less than 50% of children wear safety helmets? Let's work together to protect our kids! PS, don't forget helmet use is also vital on one wheels, scooters, skateboards, etc. Application link here: https://connect.ncdot.gov/projects/BikePed/Pages/Bicycle-Helmet-Initiative.aspx

Happy Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day! Although we didn't have any schools signed up this year, it's important to celebrate the historic steps that Ruby Bridges took (and still takes) to fight racism and bullying in our school system. Enjoy this art from a student at Lucy S. Herring last year. Our program is brainstorming some ways to emphasize this day more next year.
