“Why can’t you do this?” Ableism shows up in many different ways. Visible or invisible, disability affects more people than most care to imagine. How has ableism affected you?

Last week, two of our counselors spoke at the Hospice Foundation of America to over 100 people about Food and Grief. For many people, due to a loss in the family, the holidays aren’t as jolly a they’d wish. Food can help! Cooking something that a loved one used to make is a great way to feel connected to them during the holiday season!

Two more books to help you with difficult times this holiday season! For a lot of children, the holidays aren’t as happy. Grief dampens the joy that would otherwise find its way into their lives. These books help make space for those emotions and let children know that what they’re feeling is normal!

Kyle is a clinical intern (CT) who supports teens and adults as he completes his graduate work in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at John Carroll University. During his practicum, Kyle worked with clients navigating anxiety, depression, PTSD, dissociative identity disorder, and substance use disorders. After spending a decade in pastoral ministry, Kyle brings a grounded, client centered approach to therapy. He focuses on meeting people exactly where they are and helping them move toward a healthier future. He is especially drawn to therapeutic styles that explore the deeper questions behind someone’s struggles rather than offering what might feel like a quick fix.

Sharing a recipe can be a great way to honor our loved ones! Maybe they had one stashed away somewhere or they made it every year for the holidays. Either way, sharing food with others can be a great way to feel better during the holidays! ❤️

Need help with SAD? That’s completely normal. DM us and let’s see if we can help ❤️
Seasonal Affective Disorder affects around 11 million people a year. It can feel like nothing will help, but there are practical ways to lessen the symptoms of SAD. Exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and use of a UV-free lamp or light made for SAD are all ways of making SAD more manageable. Counseling can also help. If you’re in Ohio, we can help! Reach out to us.

Meet Levi Benjamin Funk, MEd, LPCC
He/Him/His

Levi is a licensed professional clinical counselor based in the hills of Athens, Ohio. He holds a Bachelor’s in Management and a Master’s in Counselor Education, and he’s currently finishing his dissertation for a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Ohio University. He also has advanced training in first episode psychosis work, veteran care, mindfulness, and wellness counseling.

Levi connects most with people who are all in on their healing journey and with folks who aren’t quite convinced therapy can help yet. His wheelhouse includes children and teens who are struggling, along with people of any age experiencing attention deficits, anxiety, psychosis, trauma, substance use concerns, or personality disorders.

His counseling style is grounded in Socrates’ belief that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” In practice, this looks like a mix of evidence based approaches like existentialism, positive psychology, solution focused therapy, Gestalt, and DBT. Humor, creativity, and a client led focus shape every session.

Outside the therapy room, Levi brings the same flexibility and empathy he learned as a professional jazz trumpeter. When he’s not counseling, he’s usually practicing music or mindfulness, playing Pokemon with his son Freddie, writing, or building his meditation app. You can even request a session with his dog Merida. She may not be trained, but she shows up with the right energy every time.
