From Song for Charlie: "Fentapills - You Need to Know” is a 4-minute video intended for middle and high school students, parents, and educators. It is free to use in schools, community groups, and at home. This video covers the basics and the most critical facts and statistics about fentanyl.

One pill can kill, one time, within minutes.
Drug deaths are growing most rapidly among teens ages 13-17.
1 in 10 teens say they've used a prescription drug without a prescription, or considered it.
Nearly half of teens haven't heard about the dangers of fake prescription pills.
As little as 3 grains of salt worth of fentanyl can kill you.
Fake pills are being manufactured with fentanyl, and you can't tell them apart.

Tomorrow is National Fentanyl Awareness Day - This year marks the fifth annual National Fentanyl Awareness Day, founded by parents who lost loved ones to the overdose crisis. This year, the focus is on protecting young people from illegally made fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid that remains the leading cause of overdose deaths in the United States.

Social media is a big part of everyday life for kids, but how it actually makes them feel is not always easy to spot. Asking questions like these goes beyond what apps they use and helps you understand what they enjoy, what drains them, and how different platforms impact their mood, confidence, and choices. When young people can talk through what feels fun versus what feels toxic, they build awareness and start thinking more critically about their habits. It also creates space for you to listen without jumping in, which helps keep the conversation open and honest.

Yes, you can and should use expired Narcan if someone is overdosing and it’s the only naloxone available. Expired naloxone does not become toxic or dangerous. It may lose some potency over time, but research shows the loss is remarkably small. A study of expired injectable naloxone, 30 years old, found it still contained more than 90% of its active ingredient. (Source: scienceinsights.org)

Did you know: The DEA has held 27 national prescription takeback days that have resulted in the removal of 19,200,440 pounds or about 9,600 tons of unused medications from homes where they could have potentially been misused. This is equivalent to the weight of about 29 Boeing 747 airplanes! The next DEA Takeback Day is April 25th. Let's clean out those unused medications and make this number even higher.
