It's Professional Staff week at CMH!

This week, we are recognizing our Professional Staff team members, Misty and Julie, who help keep our organization running smoothly behind the scenes. They work to verify our providers' credentials and licenses to ensure they are qualified to treat patients in a health care setting.

To drive to CMH for weekday in-hospital appointments, patients now turn onto 22nd Street from Exchange Street. From there, they will continue onto Franklin Avenue, which goes behind the hospital, to the new patient parking lots south of the hospital. Thank you for your patience during this transition!

Please note, the new entrance is not open on weekends and outside of normal business hours. If visiting during those times, use the Emergency Room lobby at the front of the hospital.

Pile drilling work is underway on the BuildCMH Expansion Project this month.

The drill has a hollow center pipe that allows concrete to flow through it. As the drill bores the hole and is then pulled back up, the space it leaves behind is immediately filled with concrete, preventing air pockets and ensuring a solid foundation. Once the drill is fully removed, a crane swings over with a rebar cage and lowers it into the fresh concrete — the weight of the steel causes it to sink into place. It’s a pretty cool process!

NPR published an article today featuring CEO Erik Thorsen, former Astoria Mayor Willis Van Dusen and U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici about the cancelation of the FEMA BRIC grant meant to pay for tsunami resiliency measures in the BuildCMH Expansion Project. The expansion construction has continued despite the grant's uncertainty.

"It is going to be a safe place not just for patients or employees in the hospital, but for the community," Bonamici says. "They can't outrun a tsunami. It is really critical that — now that they're underway with construction — this funding comes through."

The federal government promised an Oregon hospital millions of dollars to help prepare for an earthquake. They're still waiting for the money.
