Every child is different, but developmentally, most kids are unable to judge the speed and distance of oncoming cars until age 10. It’s never too early to teach kids how to walk safely. Be a good role model for young children and set a good example by walking on sidewalks, crossing at street corners, and using traffic signals and crosswalks.

Leading up to the storm, Safe Kids will be sharing tips to ensure families stay safe! As you prepare for the cold weather and potential power outages, it's important to remember that heaters and portable generators can help families stay warm but can also increase the risk of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Protect your family with these tips:

🚨 Install CO alarms on every level of your home, especially around sleeping areas.

⏰ Test CO alarms every month.

🏠 Avoid using your oven or stovetop to heat your home.

🚗 Warm up vehicles outside of your garage.

❄️ Check the vents outside your home or the dryer, furnace, stove and fireplace to make sure they are clear of snow and other debris.
