To not have a defined ‘ethos’ or code of ethics as a clinical herbalist is deeply problematic - especially when we are charged in our professional roles to hold a safe space for the vulnerability and courage of our clients and colleagues. Having a code of ethics as an herbalist and colleague means consistently upholding standards of excellence, integrity, and professional behavior deemed appropriate by the culture of clinical herbalism to which we have subscribed.

What are the members saying about Herbal Practice Connexion?

☀️ “HPX has been exactly the support I've needed with my clinical practice, providing community, educational workshops, and a wealth of resources. I could not be happier with my decision to join HPX.”

☀️ “There are other herbal business communities out there, but this one by far, has more actionable deliverables, quality seasoned and knowledgeable presenters, is personable among the other members, and affordable all in one. If I am going to invest my money in a community-based membership, I want to know I am getting value out of it. HPX delivers endless value!”

☀️ “As a RN, I am used to having a community of peers to share my experiences and to ask for support. I have been really missing that as an herbalist, until I found HPX! I can feel my confidence growing with the encouragement and additional training and education I receive in this community. My practice is elevated, I am more inspired, and I feel connected to a network of peers. It has been a wonderful addition to my work and my life.”

If you’re thinking this sounds like the community for you, check out the 🔗 in my bio for more about HPX and a video from me about the community!

The words ‘ethic’ and ‘ethics’ come to modern English by means of both Greek and Latin terms for the ‘study of morals’ or ‘moral philosophy’. Deeply engrained into a persona (at the individual level) or a culture (at the group level), ethics serves as a bare minimum standard of conduct and a lens through which we judge what is morally right and wrong, just and unjust. Indeed, when looking at the origin of the related word ‘ethos’, we find etymological definitions such as ‘the genius of a people’ or ‘a characteristic spirit of a particular time and place’.

Some might say that ‘ethics’ could be most easily defined by ‘that which you would do when on one is watching’.

As a profession, herbalism can’t easily be put into a single cultural box as there are many different traditions of herbalism across space and time that have informed its practice. So ‘the genius of a people’, or the ethos of clinical herbal practice, is likely as diasporic as its multi-faceted cultural origins and traditions. It can be difficult to know precisely where one’s moral compass should lie when the terrain is so unwaveringly diverse.

However, to not have a defined ‘ethos’ or code of ethics as a clinical herbalist feels deeply problematic to me - especially when I find my professional role to involve holding space for the vulnerability and courage of my clients, students, and colleagues.

So what does the role of ethics play in your clinical and business practices?

Each membership guarantees access to the three main spaces, or rooms where the action happens. These are The Consultation Room, The Apothecary, and the Office & Marketing Garden. Within each of these rooms, you will find an events calendar which thematically offers exclusive opportunities to learn about new topics by participating in:

🌿 That being said, I am learning that patience is more like a muscle that can be toned as a result of the heavy lifting of clinical practice and entrepreneurship (or heck, of life). This perspective gives me permission to allow myself to acknowledge and feel challenged by how difficult this path of being a clinical herbalist (and human) really is. This is not a wallowing type of acknowledgement, but rather an opportunity to say to myself ‘this is hard’ when I am feeling the weight and heaviness of it all. And sometimes that is all the medicine I need to keep going. 🌿

The Herbal Practice Connexion, or HPX, is a network. Within this network there are three main spaces, or rooms where all the action will be happening…The Consultation Room, The Apothecary, and the Office & Marketing Garden. These three rooms represent the professional facets of our work as clinical herbalists.

Within each of these rooms, you will find an events calendar which thematically offers exclusive opportunities to learn about new topics by participating in specialty trainings, live monthly meetups (what I am calling Pep Talks), online workshops and seminars with special guests, and even case review sessions with your host Erika Galentin MNIMH RH.

Each of these rooms also has its own roundtable feed that functions much like the social media feeds we are all familiar with…consider the roundtable a discussion forum where you can collaborate with colleagues, share resources, seek feedback, and ask questions.

We're currently running a *free 2-week trial* for HPX! Join today for access to these unique spaces, vast living resource libraries, and so much more! Check out the 🔗 in my bio for additional info.

Interestingly enough, in my etymology research into the word ‘patience’ I also found a relatable concept ‘hupomonē’ which comes to us from Greek. Hupomonē is a great virtue of courageous endurance – like that of a valerian growing through concrete. More active than the seeming passivity of ‘patience', hupomonē speaks to the ability to manifest oneself under hard and unfavorable circumstances and to strive to do so even without guarantee of victory. It is a steadfastness in the face of pressure to give in. This I can totally relate to. This is exactly what it feels like to be walking the path of a clinical herbalist…

Patience as a pillar of clinical herbal practice shows up in a variety of ways. As herbalists we intuitively understand its necessity when it comes to supporting our clients - patience must be had in order to give the body and the plants the time they need to work together towards a healing goal. We experience firsthand that ‘slow and steady’ is often the pace.

Patience also shows up for us herbalists as a force we must lean into when we are manifesting our careers - building a successful business in clinical practice is accompanied by years of networking and outreach in order to solidify a reputation for ourselves as trustworthy, safe, knowledgeable, and capable practitioners. It takes a long time to educate the public and our communities about our value so that we may sustain a career that is both financially and energetically nourishing…

The idea that patience is like a muscle that can be toned as a result of the heavy lifting of clinical practice and entrepreneurship grants us permission to acknowledge and feel challenged by how difficult this path of being a clinical herbalist really is.

This is not a wallowing type of acknowledgement, but rather an opportunity to say ‘this is hard’ out loud when feeling the weight and heaviness of it all. And sometimes that is all the medicine an herbalist needs to keep going.

The journey we take as herbalists into clinical practice is complex, arduous, and filled with its own special challenges and roadblocks. Sustaining and growing our clinical practices can be equally as challenging.

The Herbal Practice Connexion or HPX was conceived and born with the sole heart-path mission of fostering a community space for clinical herbalists seeking resources and support to build and grow their clinical herbal practice. We will be gathering to share inspiration and practical experience, workshop challenges, and celebrate wins through monthly meetups, Q & A sessions, and roundtable discussions. We will also be gathering to hone our clinical, business, and marketing skills with exclusive specialty trainings, monthly accountability quests, study groups, and mentorship opportunities...all the while cultivating nurturing habits surrounding rest, reflection, and self-empathy.

Does this sound like the support and camaraderie you've been looking for? Check out the link in my bio for more on HPX, including a video all about the program, membership features, and more!
