As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we reflect on the care, commitment, and compassion that define UCBC.

Our team — led by providers like Dr. Cody Gunn, Breast Surgeon — reminds us that this work is deeply personal. It’s about every patient’s story, every step of the journey, and the promise to stand together in hope.

“For us, it’s more than personal — it’s a promise. Every patient, every story, every moment matters. At UCBC, we stand together in the fight against breast cancer, committed to care that goes beyond treatment — it’s compassion, dedication, and hope in action.”
— Dr. Cody Gunn, Breast Surgeon

💗 Together, we continue to raise awareness, provide exceptional care, and support every person impacted by breast cancer — because at UCBC, it’s more than pink, it’s personal.

At UCBC, our team goes beyond care — we walk beside our patients every step of the way.

“It’s an honor to serve as a point person for patients facing breast surgery. This can be a scary and uncertain time for patients and their families, and I feel truly privileged to be considered a trusted resource. I take pride in my role whether it is answering questions, explaining procedures, or simply listening and helping to ease anxiety so patients can focus on their care and healing.”

Kimberly Liebowitz, a team member at University Cancer & Blood Center (UCBC), was interviewed today by WAGA Fox 5 for its Fox Local streaming app. She bravely shared her personal and inspiring journey with breast cancer. Kimberly spoke about the importance of regular mammograms, the power of early detection, and how her experience has given her a new outlook on life. We’re proud of her courage and grateful for her advocacy. 💕

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we continue sharing the courageous journey of UCBC team member Kimberly Liebowitz. In Part 2 of her story, Kimberly opens up about her treatment experience at University Cancer & Blood Center — where she knew, without hesitation, she wanted to receive care.

At UCBC, Kimberly found world-class cancer care close to home in Athens. With everything she needed under one roof and a compassionate care team by her side, she felt supported every step of the way — a crucial factor during the most challenging moments of her treatment.

One powerful part of her journey was her decision to use cool-capping therapy — an innovative treatment that can reduce hair loss during chemotherapy. This helped Kimberly maintain a sense of self, allowing her to look in the mirror and still see herself throughout the process.

Stay tuned — Part 3 of Kimberly’s journey is coming soon!
