We’re proud to share that UCBC has been recognized as a Clinical Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Center of Excellence by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging!

UCBC joins an elite list of just 37 programs nationwide to earn this honor, and we are the only cancer treatment provider in the state of Georgia with this designation.

So what does this mean for our patients?

It solidifies our dedication to offering highly targeted, leading-edge cancer treatments through our Theronostics program, delivered by a team with proven experience and expertise in these advanced therapies. And it means our patients receive this premier level of care close to home, without the need for extensive travel.

In honor of Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, UCBC Medical Oncologist Dr. Aaron Chang is sharing some of the symptoms and risk factors of these cancers.

While head and neck cancers have been historically linked to long-term smoking or drinking in older men, Dr. Chang notes that now we are seeing a rising trend in younger populations.

Many of these newer cases are actually linked to HPV, marking a significant shift in risk factors. However, the good news is that this variety of cancer is potentially preventable through receiving the HPV vaccine.

Watch the full discussion below to learn more about the signs to watch for and the importance of early intervention. ⬇️

For more than 40 years, Athens and Northeast Georgia have trusted University Cancer & Blood Center for excellence in cancer care. We have always believed that world-class healthcare should be accessible, and that includes the foundation of wellness: primary care and specialized oncology and hematology.

That’s why we are so proud of our sibling organization, University Health Alliance. While UCBC remains your home for specialized oncology, UHA serves as the partner for the ongoing well-being of our community.

UHA provides comprehensive care through:
▶️ Primary Care & Family Medicine: Your first stop for everyday health and wellness.
▶️ Gastroenterology: Expert care for digestive health.
▶️ Colorectal Surgery: Specialized surgical excellence.
▶️ High-Risk GI Clinic: Advanced monitoring and prevention for those who need it most.

By working together, our two organizations ensure you have access to compassionate, convenient healthcare at every stage of your journey.

Follow the University Health Alliance page for wellness tips and clinic updates, and learn more here: https://www.universityhealthalliance.com/

Please join us in celebrating National Doctors' Day, an occasion where we honor not only our own physicians at University Health Alliance and University Cancer & Blood Center, but also our incredible collaborating physicians in our community!

National Doctors’ Day actually traces its roots to our region, when Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of a physician, organized the first observance in Winder, Georgia. With time, the observance gained national recognition, and March 30 was formally established as National Doctors’ Day in the United States.

Thank you to our amazing UHA-UCBC physicians and to our collaborating physicians for all you to provide our community with top-notch, compassionate care, .

In honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we sat down with University Health Alliance Gastroenterologist, Dr. Minesh Mehta, to discuss the joint UHA-UCBC High Risk GI Clinic!

The Clinic collaborates closely with patients who possess underlying pre-cancerous conditions or genetic predispositions that elevate their susceptibility to GI cancers, such as pancreatic, colorectal, or gastric cancers.

"The High Risk GI Clinic basically helps us identify people or a subset of people within a population that may have family history of cancer or personal history of cancer to see if they have some genetic risk factor that may predispose them to experiencing or developing cancer," says Dr. Mehta.
