🎄 As we approach the end of the holiday season, we want to thank St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and The Georgia Children's Chorus for this year's Love Lights program.

🎶 The children provided wonderful live music in our Atrium lobby, and the Auxiliary made the event warm and welcoming. They even arranged for Santa to stop by in the busy days before Christmas!

Congratulations to Jacie MacMullan, a registered nurse and weekend charge nurse on St. Mary’s 3rd Floor Medical/Surgical Unit, on receiving St. Mary’s DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence. She was nominated by a patient struggling with several major health conditions that led to multiple hospital admissions over a period of several weeks.

“Jacie needs to be recognized and appreciated for her skills and kindness to others,” the patient said. “She has an extraordinary commitment to her craft, to her career, but especially to her patients and the care she provides.”

Meet Dr. Randy Lavender, Jr., and St. Mary's Orthopedic Specialists!

We are proud to let you know that St. Mary's Medical Group has teamed up with Dr. Lavender, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, to create St. Mary's Orthopedic Specialists (SMOS), a new practice providing comprehensive care for joint injuries, hip and knee replacements and revisions, and more.

A decorated U.S. Army veteran, Dr. Lavender comes to us from Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Ga. He is now accepting new patient appointments at the SMOS office, 2470 Daniells Bridge Road, Building 300, Suite 301, Athens. All five will receive $2,500 in tuition assistance as they seek to begin or advance their careers in nursing. If you or your family are experiencing food insecurity this holiday season, St. Mary's is partnering with the Athens Community Council on Aging to provide a mobile food pantry on Tuesday, Dec. 23, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the ACCA, 135 Hoyt St., Athens. Everyone is welcome and no pre-registration is required.

Congratulations to Becky Beasley, a staff RN at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital, on receiving our December Spirit of Mercy Award!👏🏼

Becky has been with the hospital since 1998 and with St. Mary’s since 2015. She demonstrates our core values in everything she does and often goes above and beyond for our patients. Her compassion shines through when she calls patients to see how they are doing after discharge, when she brought a wheelchair out to the parking lot to help a patient with limited mobility, when she has walked people who never expected to be caregivers through tasks such as washing clothes or cooking meals, and every time she brings snacks to one of her beloved Franklin County sports teams.
