Last week, hospitals across the country celebrated National Patient Safety Week by recognizing the staff members, teams, and leaders who go above and beyond to keep patients safe. At ALH, we were proud to honor individuals whose dedication truly reflects this year’s theme, “Teaming Up for Patient Safety.” Chelsey is one of those outstanding team members, and her nomination is a wonderful example of that commitment in action. This recognition is peer nominated and peer voted on to select an individual that represents ALH's unwavering commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety and care for our patients. Chelsey has stepped into the role of a Relief Charge Nurse in the past several months and has really shown how much she prioritizes patient safety and patient concerns. She diligently checks orders and charts, communicates well with physicians, rounds on patients, and addresses any concerns expressed. She has found several discrepancies in medication orders, particularly home medication orders for the patient's hospital stay and verified with pharmacy and physicians to correct them. She pays attention to the details and is aware of what is happening on the floor when she charges. She answers call lights, bed alarms, telemetry alarms, and is always willing to help out the nurses or PCAs with anything they need. She participates in improvement activities and has developed an acuity tool to help with staffing assignments. If we need someone to come in extra, she is willing to come in ad help anytime she is available so we do not have to work short staffed. She has also recently offered to help train new PCA hires because she started out as a PCA and wants to help ensure they have the best training. She mentors new employees and is a valuable asset who demonstrates the ALH mission and values.
Help us congratulate Chelsea on being this year’s recipient of the Patient Safety Leadership Award!
