As we closed out Patient Safety Week last week, we were grateful for the opportunity to recognize additional teams and individuals whose commitment to patient safety makes a difference every day.

⭐️ Teamwork Excellence Award – Maternal and Neonatal Care Improvement
The Mother Baby Unit was recognized for their outstanding commitment to patient safety through teamwork, education, and collaboration. By partnering with the Emergency Department, Respiratory Therapy, and providers, the team strengthened preparedness for obstetric and neonatal emergencies through drills, training, and thoughtful debriefs. Their shared dedication to communication and continuous improvement continues to support better outcomes for mothers and babies.

⭐️ Teamwork Excellence Award – ED Blood Culture Collection Improvement Project
The Emergency Department team was recognized for their collaboration and focus on improving blood culture collection practices. Through education and process improvements, they helped reduce unnecessary treatment and repeat blood draws, demonstrating the powerful impact of teamwork in delivering safe, high-quality care.

In addition to their team recognitions, several Mother Baby and Emergency Department team members were also recognized individually for their contributions to patient safety.

Thank you to all of our staff for your continued commitment to speaking up, working together, and keeping patient safety at the center of everything you do. 💚

Big News for our community! 🏆

Athens-Limestone HomeCare has been named one of the 2026 Best Home Health Agencies in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, earning a “High Performing” rating — the highest distinction possible.

Out of nearly 8,000 agencies evaluated nationwide, only 17% earned this honor, and we’re incredibly proud to be among them.

This recognition is all about our people — the compassionate caregivers who show up every day to serve patients and families with excellence, right in the comfort of home. 💚

Thank you to our team for your dedication, and to our community for trusting us with your care.

Department Spotlight: Emergency Department 🚨

Today, we’re proud to recognize our incredible Emergency Department team for the exceptional care they provide every single day.

Over the past several weeks, their dedication has been reflected in multiple patient recognitions — a true testament to the compassion, skill, and commitment they bring to every interaction.

During some especially high census and holding days, this team has also shown the strength of supporting one another — stepping beyond their usual roles to help colleagues and keep the department running smoothly.

While not everyone is pictured, this recognition belongs to the entire team. Your teamwork, resilience, and heart for our community do not go unnoticed.

Thank you for Being the Difference. 💚

Last week, hospitals across the country celebrated National Patient Safety Week by recognizing the staff members, teams, and leaders who go above and beyond to keep patients safe. At ALH, we were proud to honor individuals whose dedication truly reflects this year’s theme, “Teaming Up for Patient Safety.” Chelsey is one of those outstanding team members, and her nomination is a wonderful example of that commitment in action. This recognition is peer nominated and peer voted on to select an individual that represents ALH's unwavering commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety and care for our patients. Chelsey has stepped into the role of a Relief Charge Nurse in the past several months and has really shown how much she prioritizes patient safety and patient concerns. She diligently checks orders and charts, communicates well with physicians, rounds on patients, and addresses any concerns expressed. She has found several discrepancies in medication orders, particularly home medication orders for the patient's hospital stay and verified with pharmacy and physicians to correct them. She pays attention to the details and is aware of what is happening on the floor when she charges. She answers call lights, bed alarms, telemetry alarms, and is always willing to help out the nurses or PCAs with anything they need. She participates in improvement activities and has developed an acuity tool to help with staffing assignments. If we need someone to come in extra, she is willing to come in ad help anytime she is available so we do not have to work short staffed. She has also recently offered to help train new PCA hires because she started out as a PCA and wants to help ensure they have the best training. She mentors new employees and is a valuable asset who demonstrates the ALH mission and values.

Help us congratulate Chelsea on being this year’s recipient of the Patient Safety Leadership Award!

🍦 Sprinkles, smiles, and a whole lot of fun!

We recently celebrated our partnership with Julian Newman Elementary with a sweet ice cream bar for the students. With M&Ms, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream, the Athens-Limestone Hospital team had a blast serving up treats and plenty of smiles.

The kids are absolutely precious, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to build relationships that go beyond our hospital walls. Moments like these remind us how special it is to connect with the community we serve every day.

Our Emergency Department team recently took part in the Resource-Variable Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC) in collaboration with Huntsville Hospital and UAB.

Developed by the American College of Surgeons, this hands-on training focuses on strengthening teamwork, communication, and trauma resuscitation skills in community and rural hospitals. Through team-based learning and real-world scenarios, our staff had the opportunity to sharpen the skills that matter most when seconds count.

We’re proud of our team’s commitment to continued learning and providing the best possible care for critically injured patients in our community.
