October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
*Approximately 1 in 8 women in the US (13.1%) will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. 1 in 43 (2.3%) will die from the disease.
*In 2024, an estimated 310,720 new invasive breast cancers and 56,500 cases of ductal carcinoma in situ will be diagnosed among women in the US. An additional 2,790 cases will be diagnosed in men.
*In 2024, approximately 42,250 women and 530 men are expected to die from breast cancer.

May is Melanoma Awareness Month. Our physicians are trained to biopsy concerning or suspicious skin spots to give you a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Dr. Cleaver tells her story:
“I had a freckle on the right side of my face since I was a teenager. Around age 30 it started to change but not enough to be concerning. One day I scratched it and saw blood on my finger. When it bled, I knew it was no longer just a freckle and quickly got a punch biopsy for a definitive diagnosis. Sure enough, it was melanoma. Full excision was arranged and performed. Since I was quick to get a diagnosis, I was fortunate to just need the lesion excised as opposed to additionally needing lymph nodes tested and biopsied and possibly further treatments.”

We are so excited to welcome Mayela Delgado Angeles PA-C to our team at the Gun Barrel City location!

Mayela received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Dallas. Originally from East Texas, she relocated to West Texas to pursue her studies at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Health Professions. Since graduating, she has worked in as a Physician Assistant in pediatrics and family medicine in the North Texas area. She is a PAEA Future Educator Fellow, a member of the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA), Texas Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society for Physician Assistants in Pediatrics.
Outside of work, Mayela is an active member of her church community in East Texas where she currently resides. She enjoys baking, reading, gardening, watching /attending sport games and above all spending time with her two boys.
Mayela is fluent in both English and Spanish.
