Nurses experience longer hours than most medical professionals.
Many suffer from injuries due to the demands of this field.
Here are some tips to help achieve a long lasting, healthier career.
It really comes down to complete wellness. You have to pay attention to all facets of health; sleep, eating clean, and recovery.
Specifically for nurses, who are on their feet long periods, transporting patients, etc. shoe wear can make a big difference. Comfort and support in the feet translates to ankles, knees, hips, low back, and up the chain.
Flexibility is important as well. Nurses do a lot of bending and lifting and so stretching before and after shifts helps with longevity.
Focusing on core strength has shown to help active professions like nurses. This includes core, low back, and the posterior chain including glutes and hamstrings. When these areas are at their best, endurance for long shifts improves!
Lastly, hydration. We’ve heard it before but, sipping water throughout the day improves blood flow to the mind and body which helps with these types of muscle and joint complaints.
Thank you nurses for all you do!
