Spectrum Family Camp! Enjoy a weekend get-away for your family in a beautiful environment with fun family activities such as pool time, archery, canoeing and paddle boats, arts and crafts, biking, hiking, climbing wall, and nightly family entertainment. (using social distancing and following health and safety guidelines). Each family will share a cabin with only one other family, each with own private space and bath. Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided in cafeteria. There will be many fun family challenges and activities as well as our evening family movie times.

A PERSON WITH AUTISM MIGHT:
• Not respond to the word 'stop'
• Not answer to their name, commands, or questions
• Not show their hands when asked
• Not understand danger or consequence
• Try to walk away, run, or hide from those speaking to them
• Have unusual reactions to lights, sound, touch, etc.
• Appear to be under the influence of drugs/alcohol, but are not

True for both Neurodivergent and Neurotypical individuals alike. It is incredibly important to learn how to (appropriately) advocate for yourself.

Thinking about this quite a lot.

I'll be speaking on it at Yellow Ladybugs conference in 5 weeks.

I feel like it's a topic that we don't talk about near enough.

Fawning costs us in self-advocacy skill development. Big time. It's rough getting to adulthood and not knowing how to speak up for yourself. Missing those essential skills puts as at such risk.

I don't want that for our kids.
